A President We Can’t Be Proud Of

OBy now, you’ve probably heard all those allegations about how President Obama would intentionally try to make sequester as painful as possible to as many Americans as possible just so he could blame it all on those nasty Republicans and then sit back and watch while the Democrats take over the House and expand their majority in the Senate, which could clear the way for passage of all the left-wing programs he’s been wanting to pass since he took the oath of office.

Now, thanks to an editorial in the Wall Street Journal, we see just how cynical this president really is.  After telling us about the White House tours the president has cancelled – “during the popular Spring touring season” – the Journal says:  “This fits President Obama’s political strategy to punish the eighth graders visiting from Illinois instead of, say, the employees of the Agriculture Department who will attend a California conference sipping ‘exceptional local wines’ and sampling ‘tasty dishes’ prepared by special guest chefs.’”

So while our president is warning us about criminals going free, and long lines at airports, and delayed flights, and kids who will be thrown out of Head Start, and teachers who will lose their jobs, and meat that won’t get inspected because inspectors will be laid off – all because of sequester – “the Agriculture Department will underwrite the 26th California Small Farm Conference in Fresno next week,” as the WSJ tells us.

The organizers of the conference promise that it will be a “mouthwatering event” featuring “fine wines and exceptional micro-brews paired with seasonally driven culinary delicacies.”

That this president still has an approval rating of around 50 percent is astonishing.  All the Republicans have to do is tell the American people about the cancelled White House tours while the trip out to California for those “tasty dishes” and the “mouthwatering event” will still go on — a perk for Agriculture Department employees that we’re all paying for.  Even the low-information voters (read that as not-too-smart voters) might finally catch on.

A sizeable portion of the American electorate doesn’t care or can’t grasp the complexity of certain issues and legislation.  Many of them not only don’t understand sequester, they probably never heard the word, since it doesn’t come up a lot on the Kardashians. But even the not-too-smart crowd understands waste.  And maybe they’ll start to understand when they’re being played for suckers.  A president who will threaten us with massive hardship – all over modest cuts in the increase in spending —  and does nothing to stop junkets at his Agriculture Department – is not a leader.  Not one any of us should be proud of, anyway.

As much as I disprove on Obama’s ruining our nation, I almost feel as mad at the GOP who have no guts to oppose Obama’s plans. We definitely need new leadership who will face up to the Dem’s in the next election. Our time is limited.

I never thought I would lived to say we’ve seen a sorrier President than Jimmy Carter! Unfortunately that is exactly what has happened. While Carter wasn’t a good leader, I still think he thought he was doing the best for this country. I can’t say that about Obama!!

A president we can’t not be proud of. (from Mr Goldberg’s news letter received today)
Mr. Goldberg, Pull you head out of the bubble and read your statement over and ask yourself why did you really write this memo in the fashion you did?

Goldberg; All the Republicans have to do is tell the American people about the cancelled White House tours while the trip out to California for those “tasty dishes” and the “mouthwatering event” will still go on — a perk for Agriculture Department employees that we’re all paying for. Even the low-information voters (read that as not-too-smart voters) might finally catch on.

http://www.californiafarmconference.com/ Mr Goldberg, you are not saying this important meeting should be cut? Certainly not.
Your statement is misleading simple baby talk, transparently slanting your words to fit with the disgusting Rush motto, Attack this administration with no let up. Fox news thrives on low informed voters, who are you kidding? Everyone recognizes that! Even fox news viewers realize they are feed degrading distortions daily, obstinately satisfying a reality that suits the prejudice against this administration and mirrors the reality Fox news viewers expect, offering simple contemptible messages easy to repeat.

I have followed your rightwing / tea party group since day one, rally after rally. The distorted slant this crowd perpetuates, truth be abandon is no mystery, anyone reading rightwing propaganda from the continuing birthers lies, Obama religious affiliation lies, lies about the four years Obama spent with his mother and stepfather out of the country. Collage grade lies, private sector employment lie’s, reflecting a misguided loathing proudly fueled by rightwing cable and radio programs. Hours after Fox news aires a stream of blatant lie’s corrections are reported on news outlets around the world, the misinformation already repeated at noisome is not corrected on Fox news. I witnessed one on air Fox news correction, one from the thousands of lies over the years. Fox news commentators and Breitbart.com, Erick Erickson-redstate.com, Glen Beck radio, and the other usual right-wingers’ misleading statements are regularly corrected and reported, factcheck.org, politifact.com, actually fact checking sources report misstatements from both parties. Sadly Fox news personalities continue rousing hate with lie’s aimed to commiserate with the Rush republican motto, destroy this administration at all cost. Let nothing pass in the house that might in anyway be successful for our nation, we continue witnessing total house obstructionism, witness block voting Nay on republican (originated) amendments. This shameful display of
stagnation & obstructionism was over ruled with the past election. We the people voted, but Fox news personalities refuses to get on board supporting American citizens who voted and won the election, alternatively choosing to spout the same stale divisive rhetoric and hateful misinformation that feeds the distrust of our government. Reinforcing the obvious scheme of Republican representatives to do nothing that will unite citizens for a strong America, as anyone paying attention witness daily.

Cuts are to be made across the board speaker Boehner and President Obama created such a plan together, expecting to avoid what we have today owing to house stagnation, but you know this, you might misguide your readers but you do know the facts.
Mr. Bernard Goldberg I cannot be proud of you.

    • time2bsmart

So you are saying that these conferences can’t be put on for a lot less than they are? You don’t think that the taxpayers in the USA are being fleeced as they sacrifice what they’ve worked hard for so others can have more, and ridiculous amounts of funds are spent wrecklessly?

  • KCGranny

It is difficult to describe my opinion of this president and the things he has done and failed to do without resorting to obscenities. He tries to frieghten the American public with his predictions of doom over the very sequestration plan he proposed. Not only did he propose it, but threatened to veto any Congressional attempts to change it. When Congtress offered Mr. Obama the authority and flexibility to redistribute the sequestration cuts in spending, he ran from it like a scalded dog. He doesn’t want to be seen as cutting anything. He wants to blame all cuts on Republicans in an attempt to recapture the House for Democrats in 2014.

This President is a fraud and a person intent on destroying America through the economy, as Dinesh D’Souza said in his movie “2016”, even , your friend Bill O’Reilly, a friend of ours, has turned against Obama and I salute him for that. Perhaps between you, Bernie, and O’Reilly there will be a Pulitzer Prize for both for bringing down this fraud of a President and saving America. I am with you, stand tall!

  • preepree

To be perfectly honest Obama’s supporters are not ‘low-information-voters’ but ‘voters-on-the-take’. He has a base that will NEVER say they disapprove of his policies because his policies support them. The 50 billion on food stamps, 90% of Black voters, Hispanics and other minorities who may be US citizens/voters but have relatives here illegally, union workers, government workers, the Sandra Fluke types, those getting free cell phones, unemployment $$, disability $$, and other government handouts. These people know Obama is destroying this country but they don’t care because he is taking care of them. I understand their motivation for supporting Obama, after all it is in their best interest. With support from these groups Obama’s poll numbers will never dip below 45%.

What I don’t understand is the blind loyalty of the mainstream media.

  • docww

Sadly most Americans haven’t heard of Obama’s effort to make the “non” cuts due to sequestration painful to all Americans. A very large majority of those that are aware either don’t believe the man in the White House masquerading as president would do such a thing or simply don’t care! Finally, the MSM has made Obama a ‘god’ to many in our country with the persistent hagiographical references and fawning. This reality is not just sad it is tragic!

“He is not a Leader” – is that what Roger Ailes’ slipped to you on a memo card this morning? Your commentary is negative, useless propaganda.
Obama is no leader…ya mean compared to Bush II and Reagan? Sure…one guy let his VP play commander in chief PLUS start his on energy commissson; the other guy left 2.6 trillion in debt to W.’s father, and gave away half the Country to Japan and England and along with Don Regan turned turned Wall Street in the Casino that gave us ’87 and ’08 crashes. Oh yeah, he LED himself to Bitburg cemetary for no good reason; should have been impeached for the “beirut 241″ and for Iran-Contra. No..he didn’t get ousted. He let a war hero take the blame for violating the Boland amendment. You got a reply, Big Bern’?

Bernie Goldberg gives the Low Information Democrat Voter way too much credit for recognizing how they are being played by the Democrats in Washington. These people are oblivious to the concept of strategy and tactics, they live for and support the candidate that will promise to provide a new entitlement (without any regard as to who will be required to pay for that new perk.) The Low Information Democrat is satisfied with sound bites, and talking points, which relieve them of the need to actually think. The Liberal wizards-of-smart play on the emotions of an issue, the children, the poor, the elderly, and the single moms, they use the “victim” class to portray the Republicans as heartless when demanding spending cuts to programs Democrats know are wasteful. Liberals win the message war simply because their audience is unwilling (maybe even unprepared) to think for themselves, and knowing that whatever one of them says will be repeated ad nauseum until it becomes a “truth” (Joseph Goebbels would be so proud!)

What astonishes me is that Bill Oreilly is going into a rage because he is just now realizing what Glenn Beck told the Fox Viewers of his program for over a year: That Obama is a Revolutionary Radical that is going by the Rules for Radicals playbook, is backed by George Soros and his minions, that ACORN (Now known as Organizing for America or multiple other pseudonoms)is corrupt. He said he wanted to “fundamentally transform America” and he’s moving right along with that agenda. Oreilly mocked and was dismissive of Beck, still is, but the fact is Glenn was right, and had lots of documentation to back it up! He is reducing and weakening our Defense Dept. and military, doing everything he can to destroy our Economy, and giving millions to the Muslim Brotherhood, via Morsi in Egypt. Do we need more evidence that we have a POTUS who is Anti-American? I don’t hear Bill or anyone else, presenting ideas about what we can do about it with a compliant Press/Media, and a Congress that, like Mitt Romney, are too decent (in some cases) to combat the Chicago Thugs, the Great Pretender President, and the Establishment that keeps treating him like he’s a “Regular American President” He isn’t.

I do not believe that the not-too-smart crowd understands waste since they don’t pay taxes and don’t pay for their own stuff anyway. Everything they get and have comes free from the federal government and whenever they want more, sugar-daddy Obama and the Democrats in Congress just get it for them. The media tells them they are “entitled” to this stuff and they would have more if it weren’t for those stingy ba$tard$ in the Republican party who would rather they starve than give them the things they are “entitled” to.

I’m astonished that more hasn’t been said about Saul Alinsky’s book ‘Rules for Radicals, as it relates to the Obama doctrine. It is Obama’s play book. He remains the worlds most powerful and committed community organizer. Read the chapter, “of Means and Ends,” and you will be enlightened.

I guess you can call this… The Desperation of Sequestration

Barry doesn’t want merely to cancel the sequester cuts. He says he won’t even sign a bill cancelling those cuts, or letting him do less harm, unless Republicans also agree to raise taxes again. In other words he’s looking out for our best interest by threatening to veto a bill to let him do less harm!

The fact that so many American voters are either wilfully ignorant, or indifferent to this President’s lies and dysfunctional narcissistic personality (which has morphed into full-blown megalomania since the re-election), explains the bizarre approval ratings. However, the far more serious problem we face is that the “battle for 2014″ continues to be cast as a re-match between the Republicans and Obama, and that’s exactly the way he wants it.

Obama realizes (as I do), that the Republican party is incapable of transforming itself sufficiently to do any better than hold on to it’s majority in the House (if that). I’m a former Republican now, and I don’t ever want to find myself stuck in the midst of a group of “evangelical social engineers”, or “traditional values peddlers” who insist upon attaching their moral conceits to every candidate and every public policy debate. I don’t want to be elbow-to-elbow with people who believe any environmental regulation at all is a Left-wing plot, and any attempt to clean up our utterly corrupt financial services industry, or end the abuse of monetary policy by crony-capitalists, makes me a Marxist. (And in no way do I suggest that Obama’s EPA initiatives, or so-called financial regulations are legitimate manifestations of the kind of policies I do support. In fact, by masquerading as such, they exacerbate the very problems they claim to be addressing.)

We desperately need a “third political force”, not a third-party, but a well-organized, coherent and ecumenical coalition of Americans who will demand the fundamental changes this country needs if we are to have any chance of reasserting the global leadership our entire civilization desperately needs. First and foremost, we must end absolutely and unequivocally the abuse of the nation’s credit, and the debasement of the world’s reserve currency. We must do so with the full recognition that an economy based on perpetually revolving credit and fiat money, must endure a serious correction before it can re-build an economy based on legitimate productive output.

If every attempt to end our systemic dependence on fraudulently offered debt (propped up by obscene monetary practices), is voted down because “it might harm the recovery”, it means our elected officials are still refusing to admit that our so-called recovery exists only because we continue to feed it with money created out of thin-air. We need a coalition of serious, informed citizens from both parties who are willing to tell the truth about a country that hasn’t earned a profit in the global marketplace for 37 years, and is debasing the US Dollar in order to perpetuate our shared delusion of perpetual prosperity.

We are the world’s biggest debtor nation. We consume far more than we produce every year, and our real domestic productive capacity has atrophied to the point where, if our foreign supply-chains were interrupted for any significant period, we could literally find ourselves facing armed civil conflict, and the institution of martial law. And if anyone thinks President Obama isn’t up to the job of handling a crisis like this, think again. Then ask yourself: maybe that’s exactly what he’s hoping for.

The important fact which cannot be stressed enough is that the “cuts” are only a decrease of the increase. It’s like telling my employer that I’m willing to take a 3% pay cut, but only if he first gives me an 8% pay increase, and then complaining about how much “less” I make than last year. THAT is the point they need to get across. The problem is that no matter what the Republicans say about needing to cut, the majority of them really want the increases too as Hastert et al. proved when they controlled Congress.

    By Matt Patterson
(columnist – Washington Post, New York Post, San Francisco Examiner)

    > > Years from now, historians may regard the 2008 election of Barack
Obama as an inscrutable and disturbing phenomenon, the result of a baffling
breed of mass hysteria akin perhaps to the witch craze of the Middle Ages. How,
they will wonder, did a man so devoid of professional accomplishment beguile so
many into thinking he could manage the world’s largest economy, direct the
world’s most powerful military, execute the world’s most consequential job?
Imagine a future historian examining Obama’s pre-presidential life: ushered
into and through the Ivy League despite unremarkable grades and test scores
along the way; a cushy non-job as a “community organizer”; a brief
career as a state legislator devoid of legislative achievement (and in fact
nearly devoid of his attention, so often did he vote “present”); and
finally an unaccomplished single term in the United States Senate, the entirety
of which was devoted to his presidential ambitions.

    > > He left no academic legacy in academia, authored no signature
legislation as a legislator. And then there is the matter of his troubling
associations: the white-hating, America-loathing preacher who for decades
served as Obama’s “spiritual mentor”; a real-life, actual terrorist
who served as Obama’s colleague and political sponsor. It is easy to imagine a
future historian looking at it all and asking: how on Earth was such a man
    elected president?

    > > Not content to wait for history, the incomparable Norman Podhoretz
addressed the question recently in the Wall Street Journal: To be sure, no
white candidate who had close associations with an outspoken hater of America
like Jeremiah Wright and an unrepentant terrorist like Bill Ayers, would have
lasted a single day. But because Mr. Obama was black, and therefore entitled in
the eyes of liberal Dom to have hung out with protesters against various
American injustices, even if they were a bit extreme, he was given a pass. Let
that sink in: Obama was given a pass – held to a lower standard – because of
    the color of his skin.

    > > Podhoretz continues: And in any case, what did such ancient history
matter when he was also so articulate and elegant and (as he himself had said)
“non-threatening,” all of which gave him a fighting chance to become
the first black president and thereby to lay the curse of racism to rest?

    > > Podhoretz puts his finger, I think, on the animating pulse of the
Obama phenomenon – affirmative action. Not in the legal sense, of course. But
certainly in the motivating sentiment behind all affirmative action laws and
regulations, which are designed primarily to make white people, and especially
white liberals, feel good about themselves.

    > > Unfortunately, minorities often suffer so that whites can pat
themselves on the back. Liberals routinely admit minorities to schools for
which they are not qualified, yet take no responsibility for the inevitable
poor performance and high drop-out rates which follow. Liberals don’t care if
these minority students fail; liberals aren’t around to witness the emotional
devastation and deflated self-esteem resulting from the racist policy that is
affirmative action. Yes, racist. Holding someone to a separate standard merely
because of the color of his skin – that’s affirmative action in a nutshell, and
if that isn’t racism, then nothing is.

    > > And that is what America did to Obama. True, Obama himself was never
troubled by his lack of achievements, but why would he be? As many have noted,
Obama was told he was good enough for Columbia despite undistinguished grades
at Occidental; he was told he was good enough for the US Senate despite a
mediocre record in Illinois; he was told he was good enough to be president
despite no record at all in the Senate. All his life, every step of the way,
Obama was told he was good enough for the next step, in spite of ample evidence
    to the contrary.

    > > What could this breed if not the sort of empty narcissism on display
every time Obama speaks? In 2008, many who agreed that he lacked executive
qualifications nonetheless raved about Obama’s oratory skills, intellect, and
cool character. Those people – conservatives included – ought now to be deeply
    embarrassed.

    > > The man thinks and speaks in the hoariest of clichés, and that’s when
he has his Teleprompters in front of him; when the prompter is absent he can
barely think or speak at all. Not one original idea has ever issued from his
mouth – it’s all warmed-over Marxism of the kind that has failed over and over
    again for 100 years.

    > > And what about his character? Obama is constantly blaming anything
and everything else for his troubles. Bush did it; it was bad luck; I inherited
this mess. It is embarrassing to see a president so willing to advertise his
own powerlessness, so comfortable with his own incompetence. But really, what
were we to expect? The man has never been responsible for anything, so how do
we expect him to act responsibly?

    > > In short: our president is a small and small-minded man, with neither
the temperament nor the intellect to handle his job. When you understand that,
and only when you understand that, will the current erosion of liberty and
prosperity make sense. It could not have gone otherwise with such a man in the

I agree… lets not have any more of those dumb, lazy, shiftless minorities in the White House….unless, of course, they are Republicans…

      • nickshaw

Sure, toss off the truth of the comment with a glib racist response.
Just what we expect of New York liberals.
Perhaps you could point out Skeeter’s true “accomplishments” for us?

        • New Yorker

Who is Skeeter? Is that a racial slur?

          • nickshaw

Yep. Liberals. They can never figure anything out and assume it’s gotta’ be racist anyway.

          • criolle

Zero to “racist” in two steps.
If you don’t have an argument, pound on the table.

          • dodgergirl88

Oh my God, a racial slur? is that all you libs EVER think of is racist this, or racist that? You are insane, and a joke. Demoncrats are the most racist of all because they love to keep the black man down with all their social programs. Conservatives don’t give a rat’s patooty what the color of someone’s skin is.

          • io9f

Your “lord and savior” who skeet shoots so much when he’s at Camp David. (Sure he does!)
Bet your unhappy you can’t use the race card! (lol)

        • New Yorker

          Obama’s accomplishments:
          1) Healthcare
          2) Ending the war in Iraq
          3) Getting Bin Laden
          4) Stock market doubling
          5) Moving the economy out of the worst recession since the 1930’s
          6) Winning two Presidential election with over 300 electoral votes
          Want some more?

          • nickshaw

            1) ObamaKare- He didn’t write it (nor do I think he read it) and it was Pelosi that got it passed. In fact, just stealing Mitt’s idea isn’t much of an accomplishment.
            2) Ending war in Iraq- Following Bush’s plan
            3) Getting Bin Laden- From the golf course? He didn’t “get” UBL at all. He was late to the party ’cause it was already in play with orders from Pantsuit.
            4) Stock market doubling- LOL! You really believe that, don’t you?
            5) Moving the economy…- Doing nothing would have moved the economy faster and you do know that we were technically out of the recession before any of his policies were enacted, right?
            6) Winning two elections- Bush did that too yet, you think he was a dolt, right? So, not much of an accomplishment there.
Now, I could list some real accomplishments for you:
            A) Invaded Libya without telling anyone and managed to get our ambassador and a few good men killed along with ensuring an islamist regime there.
            B) Doubled down on Bush’s Patriot act so that Americans on US soil can be taken out with a drone.
            C) Supports and arms an islamist government in Egypt.
            D) Has more “flexibility” with the Russians so he cuts back on nukes and defense spending in general.
            E) Supported a socialist thrown out by the Honduran courts and punished Honduras for doing so.
            Want some more?

          • io9f

Your # 3 is totally correct. Three times Obama could have hit binLaden, but at Valerie J’s insistence, would not. The last time nobody told Obama about what was going on until the copters were over Pakistan & it was too late to turn back. Yes, Obama was golfing when the order to hit Osama went out.

          • Dianna

Healthcare???? Wait until you start paying for it-then let’s see if you still champion then!

          • dodgergirl88

Oh yeah, those are all just hunky dory. Obamacare – unsustainable. Moving the economy? Where/when/how – pray tell? Getting Bin Laden, how do any of us know? We never saw his body, and not only that, Bush laid out the plans to get bin Laden a long time before Barry came into office. Ending the war in Iraq, while escalating the war in Afghanistan, and more of our soldiers being slaughtered. Winning an election twice thanks to uninformed voters and lousy Republican candidates. If Barry gets the illegal aliens and the felons to vote, you may get your way New Yorker with years and years of libs in the White House. But be careful what you wish for, because libs like you won’t have it any easier than those of us who continue to fight this socialist dictator. I’m curious NYer, do you work for the gubmint?

          • Drew Page

“Accomplishments”? How about his running up an additional $6 trillion in national debt over his first four years in office? How about ‘official’ unemployment from 1/109 to the present running over 8% (15% if you include those who exhausted their unemployment benefits and those who gave up looking for work)? How about the number of those on food stamps growing to 57 million people during his first term? How about 1 in 6 Americans being at or below the poverty level? How about all those “shovel tready” jobs his trillion dollar “Stimulus” was going to create? How about his European and Middle East apology tours?
            Do you want some more?

          • io9f

There are still 17,000 troops in Iraq.
Healthcare – will cost more than previously. One of the Dems priorities is to figure out how to include illegals.(Joe Wilson was right.) Seniors will suffer more, & still many children will not be covered.
bin Laden – some of Bush’s methods help in that area. (I’m certainly not a Bush fan!)
The economy will hasn’t recovered. (You’re believing left wing talking points.)
Winning two presidential elections? You missed all the people who have confessed to voting for BHO more than once. Last election he won by not even a 4point lead. The majority of the opposition stayed home.
You’re a member of the Obama cult.

          • time2bsmart

Healthcare? HAHAHAHA If it isn’t repealed it will cost more and do less. His policies have made the recovery the slowest ever! Keep on those talking points, and winning an election is not an accomplishment, it is winning an election. There is no place in bgandy’s comments where there is an inaccuracy.

      • io9f

Wow. Maybe you should try and visit the real world sometime.

      • time2bsmart

Where is “gbandy” wrong? Or don’t you have an argument?

    • tumbledart8

Unfortunately, Obama suffers from “delusions of adequacy “!

  • joer1

This is a great piece but … we still have to deal with this President and more importantly … the Americans who put him into office and still support him. What have we become?

  • CmonMann

the problem is the Republicans – they are spineless : no tours, no budget, no transparency, no problem

  • Joel

    Great piece Bernie.

  • sjangers

There’s a political component to how sequester will be enforced, but also a natural bureaucratic component. Without competitive organizations ready to step in and deliver services that the American public wants or needs, and deliver those services at lower cost and with better outcomes, bureaucrats know that all they have to do is make their budget cuts as inefficiently as possible and that sooner or later a majority of the American people will conclude that cuts didn’t work and funding must be restored.

I’ve seen this done with departmental cuts in state budgets and local government budgets, and it certainly looks like the game is played the same way at the federal level. Bureaucracies have no natural incentive to downsize or operate more efficiently. All they need to do is hang in there until people get tired and frustrated enough to give them what they want. Nothing’s going to change- aside from the occasional nasty intrusion of political manipulation- until the services the American people want and need are provided competitively by a free market.

  • John Detwiler

Unfortunately Bernie there are to many ignorant and uninformed people out there who pay very little attention to the direction that this administration is taking us. The few who watch the news, listen to biased propaganndist who tout Obamas lies and distortions of the sequester will produce. The cancelation of White House tours is an example. Blaming it on the sequexter because they have to cut the guides pay, when in fact this is another bold faced lie, because the tours have always been conducted by volenteers who did not receive any pay. Then the release of the criminal illegals in Colorado, California and Texas. All this to accentuate an attact on the Republicans, and support their deplorable lies. My God what is next?

Typical liberal New Yorker. So you like the way this country is being run right now, or should I say, not run right now? This guy could give a crap about the American people, even the idiots who voted for him a second time. He is a jackass, and so ignorant of our American culture and traditions. Not only that, he is waging war on and against each other in this country. We’ve already had one Civil War, do you want another? If he cared a wink about you or the middle class, he would be doing everything he could to straighten out the problems in this country, but he’s obviously not, he’s making everything worse. And you New Yorker’s make me sick, you have voted for tyrants in your large city and state government. I hope you tax yourselves into oblivion.

  • Kevin

This is PRIME TIME to expose this administration and the Republicans seem to have no plan of attack (yet again). I’m frustrated that what I see and read in mainstream news outlets is all about how this sequester is going to hurt. Rational, well-read people know better, but this isn’t getting to the Low Information Voters. Still, I blame the Republicans for not getting their message out and examples of how this so-called President would rather hurt us in order to make the Republicans look bad so he can TRY to get them replaced in the House come 2014. Why don’t they fight? I know it takes effort. Are they all lazy? Fight for your beliefs! Fight for the truth! If Republicans were to do so, and do so consistently, the media would have a more difficult time hiding the truth from those low information voters.

  • nickshaw

Why does the federal government have to underwrite the 26th California Small Farm Conference in the first place?
Isn’t this just a showcase of the wares of small farmers and, apparently, only the small farmers of California?
Should they not be funding their own efforts at increasing sales?
I would think there are a lot of small farmers in California that believe getting access to water would be a higher priority than helping the sales of farms in Pelosi’s district, don’t you think?

The President is a jerk? Compared to who, Bernie Goldberg?

      • criolle

Were you captain of the 8th grade debate team?

      • Stimpy

Yeah, someone who calls his political rivals “the enemy’ is a jerk. Anyone who opens the illegal immigrant floodgates to curry favor and political advantage is a jerk. Anyone who strives to use the sequester as an excuse to cause the country the most pain by stupid and politically motivated ‘cut-backs’ is a jerk. Anyone who enjoys waging class warfare is a jerk. Releasing hundreds of illegal immigrant, criminal detainees — before the sequester could even take effect — that wasn’t done by a jerk, was it? Only a lib could idolize this disasterous figure.

      • warrelic

If Bernie is such a jerk, why are you reading his columns? Could it be you secretly agree with him?

Since you are doing so well, I would suggest that you and those who think as you do voluntarily donate another 20% or so of you income to support all those who pay no income taxes and receive the lion’s share of welfare benefits.

  • woulddragon

I agree with your assessment wholeheartedly, Mr. Goldberg. And while I would ordinarily be glad that there will be a DOA “meeting” in Fresno, I would be even more glad if it were to help those farmers in the Central Valley who are in danger of going out of business. That this junket will be wasting taxpayer money is just proof that what this “president” (allegedly, so-called) is doing is two letters over in the word that the DOA will be having in Fresno: JUNK.

    • nickshaw

Releasing the water wouldn’t cost a penny and result in taxes paid to the government along with many jobs, most of them for poor immigrants (legal or otherwise!)
What do liberals have against poor people?
      And rational thinking?

      • New Yorker

The Fresno water issue is based upon a court order….You have heard that there is a legal system in the USA?

You have heard there’s a legal system in the USA?

        • dodgergirl88

Effing moron. But you probably hate the human race. After all, aren’t we the problem and the real reason for your fake global warming lie. Ha ha, if you weren’t so pathetic, I would be laughing. You really having your demoncrat talking points down city boy. What a tool.

          • New Yorker

No thanks…you can do the farming…If you do anything about the law you would know that it is the court blocking the water rights not “liberals”. Ignorance is such bliss to some…Stay stupid my friend..

          • dodgergirl88

Are you kidding me? These people blocking the water rights aren’t “liberals.” That’s all they are, they’re ideology trumps common sense, like most liberal agenda’s. In California, there are nothing but liberals running the government, and the enviro’s have an enormous amount of power here. You are the ignorant one…stay stupid, not my friend.

          • New Yorker

You have no clue what you are talking about.. Check the facts…The “enviros” do not control the courts…..Have you read the facts involved in this matter?

  • JohnInMA

Is it possible that Obama and his supporters cheer quietly that rich people who they want to pay MORE of their ‘fair share’ are funding the wine tastings for the proletariat…..I mean government workers? To some perhaps it seems only ‘fair’ they get access to the same trappings.

One also wonders if the media is starting to turn a little to redeem themselves. Now that they have gotten The One reelected, they appear to be playing image-cleanup by finally pushing back, especially since the official WH rhetoric they started to willing repeat and amplify is showing to be nearly complete horse hooey. Even a small shift towards real journalism might help to educate people who don’t pay much attention (am I being too hopeful??).

    • JLC

      Yes.

  • gbandy

When the Washington Post could publish an article attacking Obama like they did in January you know Obama is not the messiah he thinks he is. Now with the latest “leaked” emails from the Whitehouse showing the desperation and actual vendictive attitude of Obama willing to “punish” the People and the GOP over the Sequestation I am very disapointed that we the People re-elected a person who would rather hurt the People than work as a true President. It seems there are beooming too many reasons why the Congress should really take this guy tot he carpet and demand more than just a campaignor.

The GOP strategy on Sequester should be to pick a department of the government, examine it’s budget and compare that with the cuts blamed on Sequester. For bonus points, get the previous year’s budget for the same department and compare the three sets of numbers – FY’2012 (last year), FY’2013 (current year) before Sequester, and FY’2013 after Sequester. I am certain FY’2013 AFTER Sequestration is larger than FY’2012.

Also, remember, FY’2013 spending levels were set with full knowledge of the proposed sequester cuts – the sequester was put in-place in the summer of 2011, and the only way to avoid sequester cuts was to implement a similar level of spending cuts.

    • nickshaw

Is it just me or does anyone else think the GOP have a problem identifying simple but elegant solutions to their image problem as you suggest, Ken?
Really, all they have to do is identify departments, as you suggest, and have each member concentrate on a particular department to get the figures then lay them out daily in the press and on the floor of the House.(on second thought, just in the House. The press would pick up on it after a few days)
Members could stand, one after another, and speak about their findings, with their proposal for cuts.
But, getting the GOP to work together is akin to herding cats, apparently.

It used to be we could occasionally trust a politician, especially the president. I get that politics always plays a role. But this administration has taken misleading the public to a new level, with over-lawyered statements, lies and obfuscation to get past elections, and hypocritical contradictions to previous statements. Now we can’t trust anything the administration says at all, because there is always an ulterior motive – implementing a high-tax, hard-left agenda against the will of Congress and the people. Since shortly after the 2008 rhetoric faded, I have never felt that Obama was my president. He has made it quite clear he does not care one bit about people like me, a small business owner. Sadly, the administration is playing on the apathy and ignorance of large portions of the American people quite well to bulldoze the far left agenda forward.

    • fitzsimmons Photography

Our President really showed what he was made of when he sent his mob out, in the form of Cutter and Axelrod, to cremate Mitt Romney. The destructive lies came daily and the press sat back and then became complicit in the unforgivable tactics to destroy anyone who got in their way. Doesn’t anyone find this scarier than the Nixon gang?

  • rwmofo

This is a perfect time for Republicans to hammer away at “Non-Essential” federal employees and programs. An easy way to identify the non-essential “workers” is to send an email advising those in this category to stay home next week. Anyone who willingly tells you they’re not essential has saved the taxpayer a lot of money. Win-Win.

    • nickshaw

But then the howls of putting people out of work (despite them being non-essential!) will begin! And, of course, they will all be minorities so, we’ll be called racist too!
You are right but, the GOP will still get it in the neck from the Dims and the LSM. They’ll just have to buck up, take it and explain their reasoning for specific cuts. Something they don’t do by generalizing!
