Moral Clarity in the Age of the Metrosexual Man

There are some things I have a hard time imagining.  Barack Obama standing tall in the face of tyranny is one of them.  I can’t imagine, for example, a President Obama, during the Cold War, forcefully telling the leader of the Soviet Union, to “Tear down this wall.”

Ronald Reagan was an old-fashioned meat and potatoes man.  Barack Obama is more of the risotto with green apple kind.  In other words, he’s a metrosexual.

I don’t know a lot of metrosexuals up close and personal, but I’ve always had the impression that they’re not the kind of guys you want to be in a foxhole with when the going gets rough – unless, of course, you’re being attacked by a dry scalp.

Metrosexuals aren’t embarrassed when they say the word “Twitter.”  Or “Wikileaks.”  These are girly words, of course, but metrosexuals are girly men so, hey, no harm no foul.

Metrosexuals will throw their own mother under the bus if there’s something in it for them.  No, not because they care more about moisturizers than mom.  They’d do it because they’re New Men.  They’re men who worship themselves.  They’re men who care about nothing more in the whole wide world than their own success.

Now, in fairness, I’m not saying Barack Obama would have ever thrown his own beloved mother under the bus.  But he did toss grandma under the wheels when she got in the way.  Remember when his campaign was in trouble because of his old friend and spiritual mentor, the Reverend Jeremiah Wright?  That’s when Obama went on national television and told the American people that he could “no more disown him than I can disown my white grandmother.”

But why would we even think of disowning grandma?  Because, like Wright, she was also something of a bigot, he seemed to be telling us.  She was “a typical white person” who had “once confessed her fear of black men who passed by her on the street, and who on more than one occasion has uttered racial or ethnic stereotypes that made me cringe.”  You know, “a typical white person.”

This is what the shrinks call passive-aggressive.  I love my grandmother.  I could never disown her – even though, like “typical” white people, she was a bigot.

And even though he could never “disown” the Reverend Wright, either, Obama did just that when his pastor of 20 years became a liability (after those tapes came out showing Wright to be a raving racist).  When you’re under the bus, Rev, say hi to grandma.

But that’s old news.  Now we have some new news.  President Obama, for the first time, has jumped into the long-simmering controversy over whether Muslims should build a mosque near Ground Zero.  Well, jumping in may not be the right choice of words.  Pussy-footing in is more like it.

At a White House dinner marking the start of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, the president said, “As a citizen, and as president, I believe that Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as everyone else in this country.  That includes the right to build a place of worship and a community center on private property in lower Manhattan, in accordance with local laws and ordinances. This is America, and our commitment to religious freedom must be unshakable.”

Pretty gutsy, huh, given that most Americans are against the mosque being built just two blocks from where the World Trade Center Towers once stood.  Except the very next day, the president “clarified” his position.  “I was not commenting and I will not comment on the wisdom of making the decision to put a mosque there.”

This raises a question:  Why not?  Why do nothing more than acknowledge the obvious:  that everyone in this country has the right to practice his religion. Every kid in middle school knows that.

A man who doesn’t have the moral clarity to take a stand – one way or the other — on the mosque controversy could never have told Mr. Gorbachev to “Tear down this wall.”  Or for that matter, won’t be able to stand up to the Iranians — either before or after they develop a nuclear weapon.

Why couldn’t the president have said something along the lines of what an old-fashioned guy like Congressman Peter King  said:  “While the Muslim community has the right to build the mosque, they are abusing that right by needlessly offending so many people who have suffered so much.  The right and moral thing for President Obama to have done was to urge Muslim leaders to respect the families of those who died and move their mosque away from Ground Zero. Unfortunately, the president caved into political correctness.”

But expecting the president to say something like that may be asking too much of a man who orders arugula salad in Iowa.  After all, here we have a president who apologizes with ease for America’s supposed misdeeds, on foreign soil no less.  But to speak with moral certainty to Muslims is another matter.

But imagine if the president had said, “Imam, you say you want to build a mosque near Ground Zero in order to foster better relations with non-Muslims – and I congratulate you for that.  Now, may I suggest you speak to your fellow Muslims and tell them to foster better relations with the United States.  Tell your fellow Muslims in places like Saudi Arabia to allow Christians to build churches in that country.  Tell Muslims in that part of the world to stop teaching their children that Jews are dirty animals.  Acknowledge, for the first time, that Hamas is a terrorist organization whose mission is to destroy Israel.   When you do that, Imam, then – and only then – can we start a conversation about your mosque near Ground Zero.”

That kind of conversation is another thing I have a hard time imagining.

hey jame,s you say our policy of meddling in others people business is to blame for the hatred of america…i am more comfortable helping countrys form, and keep democracys going, in order to make as many allies as we can..the more allies we have the safer we are in the long run. when you deal with radicalism fear is the only thing they know….these people dont fear obama..they would have feared reagan. thats what bernie was refering too….

  • stmichrick

    Bernie, Bernie…
…you have no appreciation for B.O.’s nuanced response to the mosque question. This is why we, of a conservative bent, are accused of ‘simplistic’ answers to ‘complex’ issues. Meat and Potatoes, indeed!

You surely know that in the big media alternative universe, having moral clarity with regard to our Muslim adversaries is just the opposite of being ‘thoughtful’ and having ‘considered’ judgement.

I know this from listening to NPR’s All Things Construed and The Diane Rehm Show.

See you back in the cave!

Dear Mr. Goldberg: Thank you for another thought provoking column. Somehow I can’t picture President Obama trucking a mike linebacker. His version of bull in the ring is a round table discussion with his czars. Bringin high cheese is also out of the question, unless it’s brie. Hitting a J insert punchline here. The last time I witnessed more brick laying was footage a friend showed me of a masons convention. Da Bama doesn’t run he sashays. You call that a golf swing? I’ve seen nana wacking weeds with a lively lad and her swing is better. Who’s swing is worse Pres. Obama’s or Eldrick Woods in a PGA event. Maybe they should play a round together, but bring plenty of blistex cause there will be a whole lotta butt kissin goin on. Somebody please teach the President to salute. He looks like he’s swatting flies. President Obama could have been the Jackie Robinson of politics instead he’s Steve Erckle. Some say he’s too smart for us to understand. Yea, he’s a real whiz kid similar to the original whiz kids. Remember how they worked out? As for the mosque: How much real estate is available? Maybe somebody could open a rib shack or sausage factory next door. Call it the Rendezvous New York. I guess we should also build a Shinto Temple overlooking Pearl Harbor. If for no other reason but to commemorate when th U.S. had marbles. Best Regards

Wil give it up, you can’t even slither out of your ignorant and anti Jewish swamp for a second, can you?
Facts remain facts and the fact is that Egypt has a border with the Gaza Strip, has an official crossing point at that border, and your ridiculous accusation that Israel has made Gaza into a “concentration camp” is a dirty, despicable, and flat out LIE.
And that lie says a lot more of just how despicable and Wil-lfully ignorant you are than your anti Jewish screed about Gaza.
We Jews have had to confront dangerous, stupid, and hateful anti Semitic clowns like you for generations, and no matter how often we chase you back into the fetid swamp that spawned you, you still manage to slither out.
Wil take a break, and try, really try, to find something that you know anything about before writing. Your obvious lack of facts and logic, and your deeply anti Semitic bias just make you look really stupid and hateful.

    • EddieD_Boston

Wil spends time on the Daily Kook and the Loonington Post and this is the foolishness he reads there. The clueless following the deranged.

    • JohnW

As an Englishman I hope you don’t mind if I comment. Gaza isn’t a Prison camp because of the Israelis – it’s a prison camp because they elected a bunch of violent psychopaths whose only policy is to bomb the crap out of Israel. They reinforce their own prison bars with every rocket they launch.

    • Peter

Ken, You are definitely a worthy adversery. Just so you know (and i am sure Wil can defend himself) Arabs are semites too. I am somewhat surprised why you would accuse a person that is very clearly against the subjugation of an arm of the semitic race of being anit semitic. You are getting too angry these days young man.

    Dear Wil Burns,
Do you know that the “concentration camp” of the Gaza Strip, as you so provocatively put it, actually shares a border and a huge crossing terminal with the Arab Islamic State of Egypt?
That’s right Wil, your purported “concentration camp” supposedly “totally controlled by Israel” as you said actually has an open border with brother Arabs.
I guess that means that Israel doesn’t totally control the Gaza Strip at all, and all the supposed shortages of food, medicine, building materials could easily be supplied by Egyptian sources.
Wil, you spent an entire anti Semitic screed pounding Israel without ever mentioning that Egypt has an entire crossing point it shares with Gaza.
Wil, you have confused being opinionated and hating Israel and the Jews with being informed. Perhaps you should take a “time out” Wil, get some facts on your side and then come back to write something.
Because plainly in this case, like so many others, you have no idea what you are talking about.

    • http://www.democraticunderground.com/ Wil Burns

All Egypt controls is their own border, Israel is the jail keeper of Gaza!

      • Stephen Shields

You bring a whole new meaning to the term, “toot your own horn.”

As much as I respect your opinion on media relations Bernie, I must say that categorizing Obama as a metrosexual is incredibly immature on your part. Yes, Obama is screwing up the country, just like every president dating back to Calvin Coolidge and beyond. And yes, Obama has never taken a hard political stance on anything to demonstrate any real leadership on any issue. But that itself is no excuse to categorize him as a “metrosexual.” This is not High School, though sometimes I wonder with Pelosi leading Congress. Please don’t resort to her level. And please don’t give us analogies about “foxholes” when we all know of your non-existent military record. As much as I love your commentary, this piece is just too unprofessional for your standing. As an American who respects civil liberties, which is more than I can say for the modern day Republican Party, I agree that the owners of the property for the proposed Mosque can do with it what they will. Hurt feelings, though understandable, should never break concrete laws. I believe that is the progressive’s prerogative. And last but not least, what if Helen Thomas had said they she wished the Palestinians would leave and go back to their homeland? Sounds a tad bit ridiculous, wouldn’t you agree? To end, if the Tea Party, and conservatives for that matter, are serious about ending the reign of big government, than the military MUST be downsized. It is high time to end our imperialistic streak and maintain peace through free market trade and commerce, not through bullying. RON PAUL FOR PRESIDENT 2012!!!

    • shawn

      not a metrosexual….please!
he is a narcissist of the highest order.
it’s obvious jimbo that your not a resident of nyc, so frankly your opinion doesn’t matter to any of us that were there and are still here. our governor has offered state land to this group of “holy people” it’s not about anything else than sticking a finger in the eye of every new yorker who lost family or friends on September 11 2001. wake up and smell the coffee. this has nothing to do with religious freedom it’s all about erecting a shrine to the homicidal freaks that carried out the attacks that morning. obama can”t say it but i can, Radical islamists want to kill you. they’d like nothing more than to be able to cut your head off on al jezera for all the world to see another infidel meet his maker, and jimbo they’d have no problem cutting your moisturized gelled up perfectly coiffed head either. no matter your opinion on their proposed shrine

      • James Miller

Thank you for the response Shawn. I agree that Obama is a “narcissist of the highest order” but I don’t agree with your assertion that I am a “metro-sexual.” How about we try growing up instead of name-calling. And yes I am not a New York resident, and since I cannot prove you are one either, there is no point arguing the issue. Please do your history and figure out that our country’s constant meddling in the Middle East has created the kind of hatred radical Islamic extremists have against us. Yes, the location of the mosque is insensitive, but I repeat HURT FEELINGS, THOUGH COMPLETELY UNDERSTANDABLE, SHOULD NOT BREAK CONCRETE LAWS. Its that simple. Drop your Neo-Con talking points and present a decent argument. Frankly, hearing about how radical Islamic extremists want to kill is painful at this point. It is the equivalent of saying the sky is blue, its too obvious to have any meaning any more. Oh and let’s not forget that there is already a Mosque just four blocks from the proposed one which ISN’T EVEN ON GROUND ZERO. If it were up to you sir, this government would pick and choose which religions have the right to assemble on their own property. So much for the founder’s ideals.

Good article Bernie. Once again using satire to prove a point. Unfortunately there are a few people (Wil Burns and Peter) who take themselves and everything else way too seriously. Life must really blow being that angry all the time.

Quotation, below, by George Washington in 1790…The last part, I believe is key:

“…requires only that they who live under its protection should demean themselves as good citizens, in giving it on all occasions their effectual support.”

I read this having the meaning that Americans are afforded the freedom of their religious beliefs, but must be supporting, good citizens of America in return – to maintain these ‘rights’…

With regard to the proposed NYC Mosque, these basic freedoms are somewhat in question, in my mind, as I don’t truly believe the future inhabitants of this Mosque can stand the test of remaining good, supporting citizens of America…

    The complete quotation:

“The Citizens of the United States of America have a right to applaud themselves for having given to mankind examples of an enlarged and liberal policy: a policy worthy of imitation. All possess alike liberty of conscience and immunities of citizenship It is now no more that toleration is spoken of, as if it was by the indulgence of one class of people, that another enjoyed the exercise of their inherent natural rights. For happily the Government of the United States, which gives to bigotry no sanction, to persecution no assistance requires only that they who live under its protection should demean themselves as good citizens, in giving it on all occasions their effectual support.”

    — George Washington, letter to the congregation of Touro Synagogue, Newport, Rhode Island, August, 1790, in Anson Phelps Stokes, Church and State in the United States, Vol 1. p. 862

    Thank you, Bernie.

  • http://www.bernardgoldberg.com Mike

    Hey Peter,
I didn’t know we qualified Muslims as the good American ones, and the bad Saudi/other ones. Your innocent peace loving american muslims did seem to have a little incident down in Texas if I remember correctly? Your argument falls flat. Can you imagine a monument to the brave Japanese pilots at pearl harbor, how about one for the the innocent Nazi’s at the Auschwitz camp, Maybe the Japanese would put up a monument to the Enola Gay crew in Hiroshima. Just because we are able to do a thing doesn’t mean we should do it!

    • peter

Mike, your argument worries me. You are effectively waging war on 5.7 million americans that happen to be muslims. Your next step would be to put 5.7 million amercian muslims in Guantanimo bay. You must be somewhat confused. You are living in the United states of America. We don’t do things like that here. You seem to think that you are living in 1930’s Germany or present day Israel. Your thoughts are definitely insync with Goldberg’s though judging by his ignorant rant against all muslims on O’reily yesterday. Thankfully, O’reilly cut off his bigot filled hate.

As an aside, 75 percent of america is christian. We all know that Christ was killed by jews. Alot of synagogues have been erected in america close to christian churches.

      • peter

Christians may see it as the height of insensitivity to have a synagogue so close to a church!! That is if we thought in the same way goldberg thinks.

      • http://bernardgoldberg.com Mike

        Peter,
I’m not “waging war”. You implied there is a fundamental difference between american muslims and other muslims. My observation is that there are some american muslims who are bent on the destruction of the USA and other violent acts. I believe that they, the muslims, have a right to build no ground zero, however, I believe it’s it’s incredibly insensitive and wrong to do so.

  • Simcha

It also came to my attention today, thank you Charles Krauthammer, that the former Burlington Coat Factory Building (site of future mosque in question) was damaged by a “torpedo sized” piece of landing gear from the plane hijacked my Mohammad Atta. It apparently careened down a few floors after crashing through the roof. This, then, becomes a matter of desecration of a site that was attacked, not just a site “a couple of blocks away” from the 9/11 attacks.

An added note: Isn’t this how great theocracies respond when building a new holy structure, to build atop a conquered site? This is the history of such regimes. This includes the Al Aqsa mosque on the Temple Mount – ever wonder why the world doesn’t know it as the Mosque Mount?

  • Curiousgeorge

The thing is, Bernie, that Islam is not a religion. It is in fact, a tyrannical political and legal system that masquerades as a religion. This is “THE BIG LIE” that we are supposed to swallow. We are shown the trappings of religion, belief in God, etc. so that we will ignore the fact that these are merely useful tools to justify Tyranny, rape, murder, and assorted other despicable acts and policies.

I will admit that the perpetrators of this BIG LIE have been wildly successful – How else to explain 1.3 billion suckers?

What Christian country, in the last 10 years, has killed more people, then all the Muslin countries combined? Think about it…

We’re not a Christian country stupid. We’re not a theocracy like Iran. You don’t get this??? Each week your posts are more ridiculous. We were the ones attacked, remember??? In your effort to be a pious liberal you prove that liberalism is a mental defect.

        • http://www.democraticunderground.com/ Wil Burns

Eddie, Ever wonder why we were attacked? Think about it. Charles Taylor is facing trial for war crimes allegedly committed in Sierra Leone. And Bush & Cheney are not charged with anything. What is wrong with this world?

          • EddieD_Boston

We were attacked b/c radical Muslims think we’re a decadent sex and drug crazed society, which how America is depicted by Hollywood and our popular culture. That’s right Wil, they hate us b/c of these liberal democrats. That’s why we were attacked. Not b/c of Bush. “Think about that”.

Beautiful mosque on the picture – that kind of architecture is typical historically for the mosques on the Balkans that were basically christian churches transformed into mosques by adding minarets and painting the quotes from Koran over the Byzantine icons.

  • Kenneth Taylor

Forgot to say I loved your chat with O’Reilly the other night. You certainly have got him taped!

  • Kenneth Taylor

I really look forward to your writngs. Always, you have a brilliant knack of mixing serious stuff with a touch of humour.
Seriously though, it is in my view, typical of a liberal Presdent to deny the crucial role the American Armed forces when they arrive in office. Clinton scorned the UK until Bosnia hit him, then the penny dropped, Allies like Britain are “special” because the essence of the relationship is Military. The two armed forces are blood brothers and Britain never has to be asked twice when The American Generals call.
Obama can play his appeasement game and one day, if he is faced with a real hostile event, then he will understand what allies are for.
My apologies for going off the subject but I had to get it off my chest!

  • Rod

Thank you Bernie, for this article. Many of us out here have very similar impressions of B. O. and of the almost comical metrosexual man in general.

  • Bob Z

Bernie, I applaude your concise insight on every subject, Here you’ve done it again.I never miss you on The Factor.

  • Peter

I guess by know we all know my personal views on this writer. A few things need be stated.

    1. There are 5.7 million muslims thaat are american citizens (two third of which are African American).

    2. The rights of muslims (and especially african american muslims are not predicated on whether Saudi Arabia allows a church or Hamas stops fighting Isreal).

    3. The population of muslims are equivalent to the population of amercan jews.

    4. Hamas has not carried out any act of terror aganst Americans. Americas fight is against Al Queda and we will crush that organisation.

    5. The rights of African americans to worship is not going to be predicated on some irrational bigotry of people that lack the intellectual rigour to distinguish between crazy demagogues of saudi heritage any natural born muslims born and bred in the US. The mosque is not limited to moslems of Arab descent.

    6. The US is not a jewish state nor an arm of the Israeli state. Bernie please feel free to go and live in Israel if that is where your true loyalty lies.

    7. Please tell you Israeli government to stop sending serial killers of Isaeli descent to the US to commit mass murder against african americans!!

    • Elias

Peter, your strong reaction against something that you consider fair, it’s exactly the reaction of most Americans who oppose that a Muslim church be built in the very center of the grief of Americas.

We are not questioning here the freedom to profess any religion, but about the respect for the thousands of our own people that were killed so unfairly.

With all the respect you deserve, but I don’t think you have the right to invite someone who opposes your ideas to leave this country. Please Peter, stay in this country even if we don’t think alike.

      • Peter

        Elias,

America was not attacked by american moslems on 9/11. It was attacked by Saudi citizens espousing the views of a fringe group of moslems. The Mosque is for american’s that are American’s or are residents of america just as churches and synagogues are used by Americans and residents alike.

Moslems were also killed during 9/11 (some of which were amercians).

Maybe you may want to argue that no moslem must ever work or live in or near ground zero in order to respect the feelings of people like goldberg? That would take your logic to its next logical conclusion.

I will never ask an american with undisputed loyalty to the US to move to a different country. We however have a larg body of citizens of dubious loyalty. More to Israel than to America. We should legally start to address this soft underbelly america has.

        • Ron Kean

People like Goldberg huh? I would be flattered to be known as a person like Goldberg as I’m sure most who visit here would. that you would not is greater flattery.

Israel…Israel…Israel. All you talk about is Israel. Let’s talk about Gaza and the other gentle folk who oppose Israel for a change in other words, those whose cause you might advocate.

When Hamas took over Gaza they murdered Fatah members by throwing them out of windows or off roofs…no trials…no witness’s…just murdering Muslims. And nobody ever had to take off their clothes at airports before Arafat.

And what about putting missiles in civilians homes, fighting from schools behind little girls and boys or stockpiling munitions inside churches and synagogues…oops just joking. What kind of Christian or Jew would do something like that? No kind would because you’re not supposed to.
But you are an advocate for the people who would.

Instead of building seaside resorts, Hamas would rather build war machines and want to totally obliterate Israel who has fought 5wars of self defense. Yes self defense. That’s what they all were. Every one. Fought for self defense. That’s a fact Jack.

You can stand up for the Cherokee or the Greeks on Cyprus or the Chechens or Argentina or Tibet or anyone who lost land but I suspect this isn’t about land.

Whether Jews have land or not, very poor or very wealthy, no power or very powerful, communist or capitalist, people like you will find something to hate. Some people can hide their feelings like you hide your name. Hit and run. Snipe.

And one of many problems with Islam is their prophet tells them to deceive and lie to the non-Moslem so you can’t tell who the moderate is. He could be a pious lying radical. Whether the Sunni murders the Shiite, the father or brother kills the teenage daughter, chopping off fingers and hands, I’m glad that Germany, France, the USA, an Israel opposes cruel and insane behavior like that which is part of Muslim tradition.

You have made your loyalty known as if with a mask on your face and I think Bernie should boot you off this blog all the way to some hot sandy place where you might feel more at home.

          • CCNV

Ron, I suspect ‘Petie’ is really Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, a bigot, racist and xenophobe, suffering from short-man syndrome.

I was thinking that he should be sent to a place “a little lower and a lot hotter”.

          • http://www.democraticunderground.com/ Wil Burns

Ron, Did you know that gaza is a huge concentration camp that Israel has complete control over everything that go into Gaza.

            Did you know:

Israel continues to maintain complete control of its border crossings with the Gaza Strip, and the air and sea space of the Gaza Strip.

Israel continues to control the movement of goods into and out of the Gaza Strip.

Israel continues to maintain complete control of its border crossings with the Gaza Strip, and the air and sea space of the Gaza Strip.

Israel continues to control the movement of goods into and out of the Gaza Strip.

Israel continues to maintain complete control over the air space and territorial waters of the Gaza Strip. Control of the air space enables Israel, among other things, to effectively and easily monitor actions on the ground such as interfering in aerial broadcasts, among them radio and television broadcasts. Israel has used its control of the waters off Gaza’s coast to restrict fishing to only three nautical miles from shore. Israel does not permit the Palestinians to build a seaport or an airport in the Gaza Strip, impairing freedom of movement to and from the area and the Palestinians’ ability to conduct foreign trade.

Israel continues to control the tax system of the Gaza Strip.

And you wonder why people are not happy with this? Amazing!

          • Peter

            Dear Ron,

            1. You should note that the last paragraph of your lord and mentor’s writing actually made references to the need to tag Hamas as a terrorist group before american muslims can be able to worship in a place of their choosing. It is your lord that is fixated by Isreal not me. I am neither jewish, arab or moslem. I don’t care for or about that country. I care about mine and the country mine is. My country is the great USA.

            2. I see you are quick to insert the old hatred of jews line. Well the only group showing hatred on this site are jews towards Moslems. He who lives in glass houses should never throw stones.

            3. You keep trying to argue that somehow arabs and jews are different people. You are both decendants of Abraham and decendants of blood brothers isaac and ishmeal. Your DNA are more alike than the remaining 98% of americans.

            4. Your respective religions have in different stages been antagonistic to christ or christians. Jews killed christ and Moslems victimizes and kill christians in countries where their laws allow them to get away with it.

            6. Judaism is based on vengence. An eye for an eye. Islam is spread with violence. Jihad.

            7. However, America is a country populated by christians, where the christian value of forgiveness and love of our fellow man is the predominant value. We have in that spirit allowed jews to worship unhindered here and we also allow moslems to worship unhindered here. That is if the various minority religions respect our culture which is the respect of the rights of others.

            8. I agree that once the proponents of these religions get back to their own territory, then all monner of atrocities follow. Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Iran, Israel etc are known for victimisation and unrelenting killing of people of different faiths. I guess they must at some point revert to type. In America, that would not hold. We respect all peoples and believe in forgiveness and love of our fellow humans.

            My lord and mentor huh?

And you’re wrong about hatred of Muslims. It’s just that after the underwear bomber, the Times Square Bomber and the shrink who yelled Allah Akbar, we should all be aware of possible violent Islamic intent, we should bear it in mind, and be cautious. Forget about 911 for the moment. The threat is here today.

And that Arab Christian murderer from Israel was truly an exception. If there is anything more to say about it, it shows that Arab Christians are allowed to live in freedom in Israel.

And the eye for an eye part of Jewish teaching means that if somebody harms somebody else, the hurt party is due monetary compensation. That part is not meant literally.

And brothers aren’t always alike. Read Genesis to discover how Isaac and Ishmael differed.

            Wil,

You have absolutely no idea what happened in Bergen Belson, Treblinka, Dacau, and the rest to make the analogy that you do. You have no knowledge whatsoever. No clue, Total ignorance.

Because the Karine A and other boats tried to bring weapons to the Hamas regime that is dedicated to the total destruction of Israel and teaches little girls and boys to murder civilians…children, grandparents, every Israeli, Israel has a duty to defend it’s citizens by checking every square inch of every boat destined for Gaza.

Israel did exactly what the Arabs wanted and evacuated to the last child as a gesture of good will and in return is met with even more hostility and violent attacks.

            I’m finished with your nonsense.

Obama’s Friday statement about the Muslims having a right to practice their religion is a perfect example of the way typical liberals argue. They take up the subject, but their answer is just far enough off point that they really don’t answer the question at all. Then they can come back the next day, as O did, and explain “what they really meant.” Unfortunately, a lot of these people sit on editorial boards at newspapers.

Thanks Mr. Golberg for your thoughts on this matter.
Nothing surprise me anymore about the President’s views and beliefs. He is who he is and always has been.
But, “we” the people must rise our voices and show our disagreement as we have every right to do so.
We must thank our Founding Fathers for Freedom of Speech.

November could be huge. Concerned citizens vote when they get mad enough and people are mad as hell.

I agree with you Ed. But what happens even if congress is turned over?
There are many hard choices coming to face the runaway spending. Everyone seems to be for cutting spending, unless it effects them.
Same with taxes. What we need is a true leader & that is not on the horizon, just more politicians.

    Bernie,

Perhaps some of the readers aren’t attuned to the nuances of your argument. Nonetheless, your point, set against the backdrop of the moral clarity of Reagan, is keen, insightful, and far more substantive than the metrosexual moral ambiguities that inundate us now.

  • Bruce A.

A metrosexual President? What would our founding fathers say?

Can you get, “Mr. Ben Laden, stop the terrorism” on one telerpompter screen?

Maybe Obama does’t go to church because he has five other appointments every day.

  • Buz Chertok

Obama lecturing Moslems or, for that matter, any people other than our friends and allies? Absolutely beyond the realm of possibility! No wonder you have a hard time imagining it.

  • Nancy

    Very funny column Bernie.
Hopefully, long after we are both pushing up daisies, the historians will be highlighting the absurd lack of moral clarity of this age we are living in. And has anyone noticed that Mr. O doesn’t seem to ever go to church–after all that shameless pandering to chuchgoers during the campaign? Always has time for golf tho.

Wow Bernie, I thought I was the only one who thought this about these wimpy men. You didn’t see this type on Omaha Beach. As my father would say they’d punt on first down. This is why the 20 something/unisex generation found him so attractive.

What on earth is a “dry scalp”?

    • http://www.bernardgoldberg.com/ Bernie

A dry scalp, Peter, is … A DRY SCALP. Metrosexuals know about things like that.

I thought I was a metrosexual. I had an identity. Thanks for shaking my confidence. Once again, I don’t know who I am.
