Thanks for the sobering reminder at an event we should never forget. The video, the initial jubilation, the sudden fireball of an explosion, and how ordinary citizens took it hard and personal. A compelling chronicle of seven heroic lives lost in space.

We all later found out that the night before the launch, engineers at NASA contractor Morton Thiokol had tried to stop the launch. They knew it was too cold for the rocket booster rubber seals to work properly. Their managers and NASA overruled them.
