You could even say that it was their duty to open fire - i.e. if tear gas wasn't available or didn't work. If Democratic extremists had stormed the WH fence and surged toward the WH during the swearing in of now Justice Barrett, for example, there'd be lots of teargas, if not blood, and I wouldn't have shed a tear.

I totally agree. More officers would have been well within their rights to open fire. It's a miracle that didn't happen.
