Trump's policies are pretty fluid, so I'm not sure there's a great policy-alignment argument to be made. But a number of his nominees are lifelong Democrats, whose long-held positions, work, and activism stand at direct odds with the policy positions of most elected Republicans. Then, of course, there are fitness and qualification considerations.
You're right that Democrats almost always vote in lockstep for Democratic presidents' cabinet nominees. They likewise shouldn't do that when an unfit, glaringly unqualified person is vying for a complex and highly consequential position.
And now I'm listening to the criticism of Pete Hegseth for Sec. of Defense. In regards to the DC airline/helicopter crash, he said in a moment of taking charge "We own it!" Opening up the Federal government to law suits by the family because Hegseth inadvertently said the Federal Government was responsible for the crash! Ya, inexperienced Hegseth didn't realize what he was agreeing to with that statement.
You may be right, as President Trump's picks seem to be GOP who agree with his policies. The loyalty question. The Democrats do the same thing.
