I'm waiting to hear the alt-right media spin on this. They will somehow claim this is all part of Trump's brilliant legal strategy, or some such nonsense.
What's funny is that MAGA-world (including Trump himself) couldn't care less about the legal fate of loyal soldiers like Powell and Giuliani. They'll cry "fake charges!" and "this is an abuse of our legal system!" all day long when it's Trump, but everyone else is entirely dispensable to them.
And her offense is based in a process crime by way of “breaking into” voting machines looking for evidence of tampering without legal authority. Exaggerations all over the place - wrong sized indictments with commensurate punishments. And no, again, Jan 6 was not deadly, and will never be deadly. Deadly is our governance by way of big donor money, killing us - death by a thousand slashes. You kill me with this commentary too.
Powell originally faced felony racketeering charges. They were reduced to misdemeanors as part of the plea deal I described. She broke the law and plead guilty to breaking the law. You've made it clear that you don't believe that law should apply to MAGA-folks, especially Trump... which is why you feel Powell was treated unfairly.
Jan. 6 was indeed deadly, even if you exempt those who died as a result of the insurrection (as you're inclined to do only because you love Trump), as opposed to only counting the misguided insurrectionist who was shot by a police officer who stood between her and the U.S. lawmakers it was his job to protect, as she ignored his repeated warnings and broke her way through a Capitol barrier. She's dead because of Trump's lies. You pretend otherwise because you love Trump. No other reason.
>>You kill me with this commentary too.
I understand that you'd much rather me post a video of myself humping a Trump poster, to finally establish myself as part of your tribe, but that's not going to happen. I'm here to put out fair and honest commentary. Deal with it.
This is a great result as you say, but those fines should have had an extra 0 on the end if that was still within the scope of punishment. Does Powell lose her license? She should be disbarred.
"Release the Kraken" - remember that?, was the moment I knew she was completely loco and had fully bought in to the 'Q' nonsense.
I believe Powell still has her license, though she was sanctioned by a federal judge. Yeah, it was clear pretty early in the "stop the steal" trash that she was a nut, but idiots were eager to believe whatever she said.
That's a weak-sauce punishment then. Anyone would pay a few grand to avoid jail time and still hold their job. DOJ Must be banking on her testimony against Trump to make it worth it. I guess she and her cohorts could be caught up in further legal action with more sanctions down the pipeline.
Well said.
