When Obama was President he was known as the “the deporter in Chief. I don’t remember him getting the political and media vilification that Trump is getting. Is this a fair comparison.

The reason President Obama's immigration policy wasn't widely reported was because it didn't fit the right-wing media vilification of the Democrat's "soft on immigration" rant. The liberal media didn't make a big thing about it because they didn't want to alienate a constituency.
Similarly, President Obama was very aggressive in ferreting out Middle East terrorists with killer drones - more so than President GW Bush. The right-wing media ignored this and instead continually harped on President Obama because he didn't use their politically correct catch phrase "radical Islamic terrorism," insinuating that not mouthing that phrase somehow made President Obama "soft of terrorism."
You must not relax your critical thinking ability.
