Trump has Zero interest in appealing to anyone outside of his MAGA base. The Vance pick is the best evidence of this. I'm not sure if it's delusional (e.g. "How can I lose? - look at all the people at my rallies!"), if he simply doesn't care if he wins or not, or he is physically and mentally incapable of behaving any other way. I'm thinking a combination of all three. What say you, Bernie & John?

I've said before to not underestimate Republicans' ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. That being said, Harris's honeymoon will end. Let's see and hear how she does extemporaneously and at debates. Plus, as you rightly say, she has a record not easy to defend. I believe she will revert to type. As for voters, 100 days should serve to concentrate the mind.

One correction, though. No matter if the race is called for Harris, and regardless the margin of victory, Trump will never concede or believe he lost.

Do you think we're even going to get a debate between Trump and Harris?

I think there will very much pressure to do so, and neither will be able to resist. It should be a rager.

Excellent article as always Bernie. The Harris/____TBD____ ticket is going to be a horse race that goes down to the wire. And as you have mentioned numerous times previously, Trump's biggest adversary is himself. To the average voter, Harris is not Hillary and the campaign playbook he ran in 2016, won't work. The social media circle of African-American females friends I know... are fired up. More so that what I saw in 2008 and 2012 when Obama ran. I wouldn't say that my wife is an extreme MAGA, but she has been on the Train since 2016. She's not planning on switching votes, but when I hear her start to say, "I wish he'd tone it down a bit", then I hear the voices of the moderate votes across America that he needs to win in November.

As a North Carolinian, don't sleep on her selecting Roy Cooper as her VP choice. It changes her position in the South. If she does, and with Mark Robinson (GOP Governor Nominee) continuing to getting hammered with ads, NC could very easily flip.

Like at the debate, somebody at the RNC needed the ability to shut off Trump's microphone, say, after an hour. I spoke to somebody who was behind the scenes there, and he said there were some VERY long moments when the teleprompter wasn't moving, which means Trump was riffing.
