Zimmerman is Not Guilty — What About the Media?

Not GuiltyThere are certain things polite people are not supposed to say out loud, and certainly not in public.  I thought of this while listening to what passes for television analysis after the George Zimmerman verdict came in.

First, let’s acknowledge that Trayvon Martin’s death is a tragedy.  I’ll go so far as to say it was a tragedy that should never have happened.  I think George Zimmerman, the “wannabe cop,” was too vigilant that night.

I also think George Zimmerman profiled Trayvon Martin – and profiled him because he was a young black man in a predominantly white neighborhood.  But what polite people don’t do in public is talk about why George Zimmerman was suspicious of 17-year old Trayvon Martin.

The morning after the verdict came in, Ben Jealous, who heads the NAACP, told Bob Schieffer on Face the Nation that, “Too many people in our country use color as grounds for suspicion.”

He’s right.  But what he didn’t get into is that they do it for a reason.  And Bob Schieffer, a white man from Texas, wasn’t about to press the head of the NAACP about why skin color might be grounds for suspicion.

The sad fact is that while African Americans make up only about 12 or 13 percent of the population, and young black men considerably less than that, they commit a disproportionate amount of crime.  This is no secret.  Everybody knows it’s true, even anchormen and other white liberals.  So when Zimmerman saw this black kid in his mostly white, gated community, he did some quick, reflexive calculations — and thought the boy might be up to no good.  Yes, he did use color as a ground for suspicion.

That doesn’t make Trayvon Martin a criminal, of course, but it also doesn’t make George Zimmerman a racist.  He had the same thoughts about Trayvon Martin that most of us would have had, whether we admit it or not.

If I were black I wouldn’t like this stereotyping.  I’d say Trayvon Martin had as much right to be inside the gates of that community as George Zimmerman did.  He shouldn’t have been looked upon as a potential criminal.

But he was looked upon with suspicion because, as painful as it is to acknowledge, he looked like too many other black kids in hoodies who do bad things.  Black people know this better than anyone else. They’re the victims of most black crime. Remember what Jesse Jackson said several years back.  “There is nothing more painful to me at this stage in my life than to walk down the street and hear footsteps and start thinking about robbery. Then look around and see somebody white and feel relieved.” Does that make the Reverend Jackson a racist – or a realist?

Television host Tavis Smiley, who also is black, was also on television Sunday morning.  He told George Stephanopoulos on ABC’s This Week,  “For many Americans [the verdict] is another piece of evidence of the incontrovertible contempt that this nation often shows and displays for black men.”

Stephanopoulos, being a polite white liberal man, of course didn’t say, “Black men are doing a pretty good job of showing incontrovertible contempt for each other in our nation.  Have you checked the crime statistics for Chicago on any given weekend? The Ku Klux Klan isn’t killing those young black men.  Black thugs are.”

So-called civil rights leaders, like Al Sharpton, painted a picture of a black teenager walking home and being attacked by a white vigilante for absolutely no reason except that the boy was black – and, of course, because the shooter was sort of white.  If Sharpton and the others talked about the fight that immediately led up to the shooting, I missed it.  Instead, they preferred to peddle a fairy tale version of what happened.  They left out the ugly stuff – that there was plenty of reason to believe Trayvon Martin was on top of George Zimmerman pummeling his head into the concrete sidewalk right before Zimmerman fired his gun.  And, of course, none of the mostly white, mostly liberal anchors, said, “Hold on, you’re leaving something very important out of your story.”

This is what is known as showing good racial manners.  It’s how white people behave to show that they’re not bigots like all those other white people.  Never mind that treating black people like delicate flowers is a kind of soft bigotry all by itself.  All that matters is that white people – white liberals, mostly – feel better … about themselves.

Another recurring theme coming from liberal analysts, black and white, after the verdict was that in America we don’t put the same value on black lives as we do on white lives.  That’s certainly true when it comes to the liberal media.

Every weekend in big cities across America numerous black kids shoot and often kill each other.  None of these stories get very much national media attention and none of them get wall-to-wall TV coverage the way the Zimmerman trial did.  Is this because liberal white journalists don’t put the same value on black lives as they do on white lives?  It sure looks that way.

Let’s end by stating the obvious:  The single biggest reason the trial got so much attention is because it played into a narrative, a false one to be sure, but one that many blacks and many white liberals love to perpetuate.  It’s the Great American Drama about how white people get away with not only oppressing black people, but even get away with killing them.  Isn’t that what Tavis Smiley meant when he said, ““For many Americans [the verdict] is another piece of evidence of the incontrovertible contempt that this nation often shows and displays for black men.”

Someone needs to tell Mr. Smiley, the Reverend Sharpton, the civil rights establishment and white liberals both in and out of the media that we are no longer living in 1955 Mississippi. If there is a crime involving two races today, the victim is most likely going to be white and the criminal is most likely going to be black – not the other way around.  That may be one more thing polite people aren’t supposed to say out loud – and certainly not in public.

Liberal Dummies on Parade

One of the nicest things about being a conservative is that you don’t have to say really stupid things just to establish your bona fides the way that liberals do..

For instance, ever since 1987, when Al Sharpton came to prominence by trashing the NYPD on behalf of teenage liar extraordinaire Tawana Brawley, he has spent a quarter of a century shaking down corporations just like his pal Jesse Jackson, threatening boycotts if he isn’t paid the customary 30 pieces of silver; neglecting to pay his income taxes; and inciting violence which, on more than one occasion, has led to black mobs killing New York Jews. But, during a recent appearance on The Factor, Geraldo Rivera insisted that Sharpton is a great civil rights leader.

Compared to whom, I wish Bill O’Reilly had asked. Louis Farrakhan? David Duke? Eric Holder?

The fact is, when you look at the likes of Sharpton, Jackson, Maxine Waters, Hank Johnson, Sheila Jackson Lee, Frederica Wilson and the various officers of the NAACP, you realize that “civil rights leader” has become an oxymoron which should never be uttered in polite society.

Denise Ilitch, the daughter of Little Caesar’s founders Mike and Marian Ilitch, hosted a one million dollar pizza party in Detroit as a fund-raising event for Barack Obama. When someone asked her if pizza was really going to be the entree, she said it would, “But we’ll be serving it on sterling silver plates.” That’s what Obama’s left-wing one-percenters call getting in touch with their inner ninety-nine percenters.

In any case, conservatives, the next time you feel like ordering a Little Caesar pizza, you might wish to keep in mind where your money is going.

When I heard Jay Carney insisting that a leader “must be judged on his actions, not his empty words and promises,” I wondered if he had begun drinking on the job. Then I realized he was referring to Syria’s Bashar al-Assad, not to Barack Obama. By the way, am I the only person who has begun to regard Mr. Carney as our own Baghdad Bob?

Recently, when the giant lottery reached $600 million, I was one of those people who purchased a lottery ticket. When I didn’t win, I actually breathed a momentary sigh of relief. I simply couldn’t imagine how I would have dealt with such an enormous amount of money. I mean, you can’t simply stick it under your mattress. Overnight, you have to start dealing with financial advisors and accountants, setting aside great chunks of time to meet with these people and make major decisions about where to put the dough and when to move it, not to mention all those people who suddenly show up, promising to be your best friend if only you’ll write them a check.

Simultaneously, along with the realization that I am simply not equipped to deal with that sort of financial responsibility, it occurred to me that neither is Obama. That’s why he has added nearly six trillion dollars to our national debt, and wants to keep adding to it. It isn’t just because he is a left-wing ideologue who sees our tax dollars as an easy way to bribe people to vote for him, but because he actually can’t get his head around the fact that a trillion isn’t just, say, ten times as much as a billion; it’s a thousand times more. A million dollars is $1,000,000, and a billion is $1,000,000,000, whereas a trillion is $1,000,000,000,000!

That’s why he’s being so foolish and irresponsible when he suggests that raising income taxes on those earning the first number will drastically lower that last number. It would hardly make a dent even if he raised the tax not to 40 or 50%, but even all the way to 100%.

Finally, I don’t blame the spending scandal at the General Services Administration (GSA) on Obama in quite the same way as some conservatives. I have no reason to believe that Obama knew that the clucks at the GSA went to Vegas to party and wound up spending $3,200 of our taxes on a mind reader, $7,000 on sushi, $75,000 on a team-building exercise which consisted of building a bicycle or $147,000 on airfare and hotels.

I mean, sure, maybe he would have known if he’d spent $3,200 on a mind reader. The reason, though, that the buck, or rather bucks, stop at Obama’s desk is because he and his wife have squandered so many millions of our tax dollars on vacations for themselves and the kids; on galas that give them the opportunity to rub shoulders with left-wing celebrities; and on thinly-veiled re-election events being passed off as non-partisan forays into swing states; that he’s setting an example of fiscal profligacy for the knuckleheads at the GSA and everywhere else in his administration.

After all, whether we’re talking about a business or a country, it’s naïve, even churlish, to demand that the employees behave more responsibly than their boss.

The Nutty Things Liberals Say

I know that those on the Left pride themselves not only on their compassion and on holding the deed to the moral high ground, but also to having brains so enormous that they can barely make it through doorways. Well, it ain’t necessarily so.

For instance, while speaking at Al Sharpton’s National Action Network convention in Washington, D.C., Attorney General Eric Holder said this to his host: “Thank you for your partnership, your friendship and your tireless efforts to speak out for the voiceless, to stand up for the powerless, and to shine a light on the problems we must solve, and the promises we must fulfill.”

You would have thought he was praising some great humanitarian. Instead, he was paying homage to the man who got his start as a publicity whore back in 1987, when he accused white cops of having raped a black teenager, who had only made the accusation as a way to conceal from her mother the fact that she had spent the weekend shacked up with her boyfriend. Sharpton followed that up by singling out a couple of New York Jews for street justice. Predictably, they were subsequently killed by black mobs.

More recently, Rev. Sharpton, who now hosts a show on MSNBC, was down in Sanford, Florida, and once again, in concert with the Black Panthers, he was inciting racial violence.

As Bernard Goldberg put it in a recent article devoted to Sharpton’s litany of sins, “This kind of nonsense gives cynicism a bad name.”

Joe Biden, who is busy serving as Obama’s consigliore, admitted, “I never had an interest in being a mayor because that’s a real job. You have to produce. That’s why I was able to be a Senator for 36 years.” So, as a reward for being lazy as well as stupid, he winds up being the man a heartbeat away from the Oval Office. Still, while he’s right about his own deficiencies, he still manages to be wrong when it comes to mayors, as proven on a daily basis by the likes of Michael Bloomberg, Antonio Villaraigosa and Rahm Emanuel.

Recently, while delivering a speech at Alabama A&M, Louis Farrakhan told an adoring crowd that Jesus Christ had been a black Muslim. He also took the time to refer to Jews as “a synagogue of Satan” and accused white Republicans of praying for Obama’s death. I wasn’t too surprised that the predominantly black student audience cheered his words, but I was a bit taken aback to learn that he’d been invited down by the A&M Poetry Club and the A&M Democrats. Frankly, I would have expected better from the poets.

My head came close to exploding when Hilary Rosen took Ann Romney to task for never having been a member of the work force. For one thing, anyone who thinks that raising five boys is easier than being a liberal flack clearly has straw for brains. For another, Ms. Rosen is a lesbian. I have no bone to pick with lesbians, but I can’t deny that I find it ludicrous when the likes of Hilary Rosen and Rosie O’Donnell take it upon themselves to lecture American women on how they should live their lives.

On a related matter, it’s worth noting that in 2005, when Michelle Obama decided to entrust four-year-old Sasha and seven-year-old Malia to nannies, her husband was being paid $162,000 as a U.S. senator. So it wasn’t financial necessity that had her raking in $317,000 dealing with community affairs at the University of Chicago Medical Center; although why anyone at a medical center who’s not performing heart transplants would be making that kind of money strikes me as a reasonable question. Still, I think it’s their business if the Obamas decided they preferred living large to providing their kids with a stay-at-home mom. At least it is so long as their mouthpiece doesn’t go around denigrating the admirable Mrs. Romney.

Finally, we keep hearing various left-wing nabobs accusing the Republicans of having declared war on women. You have to admire the brass of these people, if nothing else about them. I mean, the gall of making such an accusation in light of the things high-profile liberals have said over the years about the likes of Condoleezza Rice, Michele Bachmann, Sarah Palin and female Tea Party members, is truly awe-inspiring.

Speaking of women, we should never forget that it wasn’t too long ago that Hillary Clinton, whose engraved business cards read: “The Smartest Woman in the World,” announced that Syria’s Bashar al-Assad was a reformer. But, as I recall, she also had very complimentary things to say along the way about her husband and Barack Obama, so perhaps she just has a soft spot for tall liars.

Finally, it should be acknowledged that almost as noteworthy as the things that left-wingers say are the things they don’t. For instance, while constantly railing against the way that Republicans treat their womenfolk, when have you ever heard Obama utter a negative word about the vile manner in which women are dealt with in Islamic societies?

For that matter, when have you ever heard Obama or any of his groupies acknowledge that a state of war between Islam and the West has existed ever since, at Jimmy Carter’s behest, the Ayatollah Khomeini took control of Iran?

In my lifetime, the only event that was even more calamitous was the day that Barack Obama took control of the United States.

Trayvon Martin – The Cast of Characters

On February 26th, I was no where near the shooting of Trayvon Martin so I have no idea what happened.  I don’t know Trayvon; I don’t know George Zimmerman.  I don’t know if Trayvon did anything to provoke George and I have no idea what went on in George’s head or heart so I have nothing to say about the actual incident because the investigation is still ongoing and we don’t have all the facts.

But that hasn’t stopped a whole lot of other characters from injecting themselves into the national drama.

I’ll leave the media to the experts like Bernie Goldberg whose article Trayvon Martin and Media Hypocrisy tells us all we need to know about the media’s bias and its reporting of the story.

I can’t begin to imagine what Trayvon’s parents are going through, but I also can’t imagine how, amidst all the grieving, his mother had the time, energy and composure to consult an attorney to file trademark applications for “I Am Trayvon” and “Justice for Trayvon.”  Enough said.

President Obama was asked a question during one of his press conferences about the case.  Not having learned his lesson from the Gates situation at Cambridge, he went head first into the quagmire by saying that if he had a son, he would look like Trayvon.  With that statement, Mr. Obama did more than just personalize the situation; he put a racial spin on it thereby excluding 86% of Americans.  A person with true leadership skills would’ve had us collectively thinking of Trayvon as one of our own young people rather than reminding us that he was a black young man.  I guess I have to give him some slack because he was speaking off the cuff without his teleprompter.

Enter poverty pimps, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, the race-baiting maggots who are genetically drawn to any opportunity for national attention.  Al Sharpton was calling for the immediate arrest of George before the investigation was completed and only absented himself from the controversy to attend his own mother’s funeral.  Jesse Jackson called Trayvon “murdered and martyred.”  Jackson told the LA Times that “blacks are under attack,” adding that “targeting, arresting, convicting blacks and ultimately killing us is big business.”  How irresponsible can two people be?

I’m not off base here particularly when you have the former NAACP leader C.L. Bryant accusing both Sharpton and Jackson of “exploiting” the Trayvon Martin tragedy to “racially divide this country.”

Who can forget those lovable New Black Panthers whose spokesman, Mikhail Muhammad, called for vigilante justice, saying “an eye for an eye; a tooth for a tooth” and offering a $10,000 reward for George’s “capture.”  Not a word from President Obama or Eric Holder about this type of vigilantism but then again, it was Eric Holder who failed to follow through with the prosecution of the 2008 New Black Panthers’ voter intimidation case.

Then there’s the moron, Spike Lee, who decided to tweet George’s address but got it wrong and tweeted the address of an elderly couple whose lives were disrupted by this idiot’s need for revenge.  Since then, the couple has “settled” with Spike Lee (I hope they got plenty of bucks out of this bozo.)  He’s since tweeted an apology. Maybe someone should tweet his address. He is a perfect example of why I cannot and will not separate the man/woman/actor/actress from their politics.  As long as I know that one dime of my money will end up in his pocket, I will never see a Spike Lee movie.  Period.

Before this is over, we’re going to see a whole new bunch of unsavory characters coming out of the woodwork.  I’m sure there are plenty of publicity whores thinking right now how they can monetize the situation.

If there’s an arrest and George is put on trial, I’m sure Court TV will have a huge daily audience watching and picking apart every shred of evidence.  I will go out on a limb and say that, just like there was no way OJ would ever be convicted, there will be no way that George will not be convicted.

I don’t get it, but if you do, God bless you.

Peeling the Onion Known as Trayvon Martin

After you finish this bonus article inspired by recent events, we hope you’ll also enjoy It’s Time to Focus on Current Events.

In the beginning, we were told that Trayvon Martin, who was shot and killed by George Zimmerman, was a model student and a credit to his race. We were told that he had been suspended from school for tardiness. And we were constantly shown his photo, in which he looked almost cherub-like.

Then we heard that it wasn’t tardiness, but truancy. Finally, we got the news that his suspension was drug-related. Later, we learned that the photo of the smiling Trayvon was five years old. We then got to see a photo of 17-year-old Trayvon looking like a thug. We also learned that he was 6’3” and that his twitter comments hardly paint a picture of a choir boy. We also learned that he had been found to have stolen jewelry, a screwdriver and graffiti paraphernalia, in his backpack.

None of that is an excuse for being shot down in cold blood. But, then, George Zimmerman was found to have gotten his nose broken and the back of his head bashed and bloodied in the aftermath of his encounter with Martin, so it may not have been cold-blooded, after all.

What we do know is that if George Zimmerman’s father, rather than his mother, had been Hispanic and if his last name had therefore been Gomez, Lopez or Chavez, nobody would have ever heard of the incident. We certainly know that Obama wouldn’t have chimed in, and Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson and the Black Panthers, would never have rushed down to Sanford, Florida.

Some people have said that Obama had to respond to a reporter’s question, after all, but we all know that nobody gets to ask Obama a question he doesn’t want to answer. And while other people seem to be perfectly satisfied with his response, I’m not. For one thing, when it’s a white victim of black crime, he never says anything. This time, he felt compelled to say, “If I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon Martin.” I wonder how the media would have responded if a white 17-year-old had been shot by a black person, and a white president had said, “If I had a son, he would look like Billy Jones.”

With Obama and his hand puppet, Attorney General Eric Holder, it always comes down to race. That’s bad enough, but the fact that Obama sold himself as the first post-racial president makes his response all the more insufferable.

While Sharpton and all the other usual suspects are screaming for justice, is there anyone who actually believes that if it’s determined in a court of law that George Zimmerman is innocent of any wrongdoing that America won’t experience Rodney King-type riots in the aftermath?

In a related matter, Rep. Laura Richardson, a black congresswoman from California, who is already being investigated by the House Ethics Committee for various violations, has now been accused by a former aide of treating her and other staff members like chattel.

This comes after Sheila Jackson Lee was voted the most obnoxious member of Congress by congressional staffers; Charles Rangel was found guilty of 11 infractions by a House committee; Maxine Waters is under investigation for questionable financial dealings; and Rep. Hank Johnson made America cackle by worrying during a House hearing whether the island might tip over if too many sailors and their families were relocated to Guam.

It’s not white America that has set back race relations; it’s Obama, Holder and the corrupt and ignorant dingbat members of the Black Congressional Caucus. It’s they, along with race baiters like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, who consistently ignore black crime and the black illegitimacy rate while berating whites for alleged grievances.

It takes an honest black man such as Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson to say, “It’s hypocritical of so-called black leaders to call for the prosecution of George Zimmerman and accuse the police of racism without knowing the facts. Black-on-black crime takes place every day. And blacks kill whites in far greater numbers than whites kill blacks. Yet, we only see these leaders and their hypnotized black followers worked up when a black is victimized by another race. This is racist and evil.

“Where were the NAACP, Al Sharpton, the Black Caucus and black ministers when black flash mobs were terrorizing the city of Philadelphia and attacking whites and others? It was so bad that Mayor Michael Nutter threatened to jail parents if they were not willing to get their thug children under control. In Kansas City, a 13-year-old white kid was attacked by two black teens who poured gasoline on him and set him on fire, saying, ‘You get what you deserve, white boy.’ If these leaders were sincere, they would condemn crime across the board.

“It’s unfortunate that the parents of Trayvon Martin would associate with the likes of Al Sharpton and allow their loss to be exploited. Just imagine the support they would receive from Americans of all races if they rejected hate and called for calm and due process to allow the truth to come out.”

Instead, Trayvon’s mother has trademarked his name and hoodies just like Trayvon’s, as they’re being marketed, are selling on the Internet for $80.

Is it any wonder that Republicans of all colors can’t wait for regime change to take place on November 6th?

Speaking of the election, I just heard Rick Santorum say that he would be willing to run as Romney’s vice-president.

All I know is that if it comes to pass, President Romney would not only need a chief of staff and a solicitor general, but an official food taster.
