Biden’s Border Failures Pile Up

On Tuesday, reporters were finally granted access to one of the Texas facilities being used by the Biden administration to provide temporary shelter to unaccompanied children who’ve illegally crossed the U.S. border in recent weeks. What they found were incredibly overcrowded conditions. The facility, that has a capacity for 250 people, contained over 4,100 children.

According to the reporting, some of the 3,200 square-feet plastic-walled “pods” are holding over 500 children. That’s about 17 times the number of individuals that the CDC says it can hold safely under our current health-crisis conditions. In other words, the facility is at 1700% pandemic capacity.

Between 250 and 300 kids enter the facility every day, and “far fewer leave,” according to a U.S. Border Patrol executive officer.

The problem, of course, stems from President Biden’s well-publicized change to U.S. border policy, done in the name of humanity, that allows minors — who are seeking asylum and don’t have an adult escort — to enter the United States.

There’s certainly a thoughtful legal and moral debate to be had about how to best handle such a scenario, but — as is often the case in politics — logistical concerns and considerations of rhetorical consequences pretty much fell by the wayside.

As we learned through previous administrations, when you signal an easing of border restrictions to the world, more people are going to try to cross the border… or, as in this case, send their children across the border. So, when you do that, you have to be prepared to deal with what happens next.

The Biden administration clearly wasn’t anywhere close to being prepared.

The result is hundreds of children being crammed into these “pods” designed for a few dozen people. Especially young children are being kept in a large, stone-floored room with some mats and playpens, decorated with bright colors to make them appear more appealing. COVID tests aren’t being administered until a child becomes symptomatic, which — with the incredibly close quarters — is pretty pointless by then.

This is the story of merely one facility. Being that it’s overwhelmed, the others assuredly are as well.

And again, all of this was because Biden and many on the left believed Trump’s border policy was inhumane and unacceptable. It’s difficult to miss the irony.

Border security and illegal immigration have always been tricky issues, and by “tricky” I’m not talking about our government’s capacity to effectively deal with them. I’m instead talking about the unwillingness of elected leaders on both sides to take them seriously. It seems that both teams are far more interested in keeping these problems around to use as campaign issues, rather than coming up with actual solutions.

Democrats want to play the humanity and diversity cards, while insisting it’s not at all about expanding their voter base. It sets them up for problems like the crisis they’re dealing with right now, but they know that with an accommodating media, the political damage will be temporary and relatively minimal.

Republicans insist it’s about national sovereignty and security, and use the position as a political rallying cry (as Trump famously did in 2016, and Ted Cruz and other Senate Republicans recently did in their dopey Blair Witch Project videos):

But when the GOP has all the power in Washington (like they did during Trump’s first two years in office), they do virtually nothing on such issues. In fact, Trump and congressional Republicans waited until the Democrats won back the House in 2018 to “try” to pass border-wall legislation and other border security measures. Then, they complained that the Democrats were obstructing them.

It’s all political theater.

In the end, both parties are getting exactly what they want. Unfortunately, what they want doesn’t include fixing anything.

Decades of Doing Nothing

Despite what the media want us to believe, President Trump didn’t create the current illegal immigration mess.  Congress and the courts created it and it’s been around for decades.  And President Trump isn’t the first to bring our attention to illegal immigration.  There was a time when liberals, such as Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Harry Reid, Dianne Feinstein, John Kerry and Chuck Schumer spoke strongly against illegal immigration.  The Trump administration is simply enforcing the laws that already exist on the books (U.S.C. 1325(a)). If people don’t like what’s happening, they should contact their representatives in Congress and demand the problem be fixed.  But that isn’t happening.

The problem is complex.

The Republicans can’t get their act together and speak with one voice, which is frustrating because they hold the majority in Congress.  Different factions within the Republican Party are at odds with one another and some are even at odds with the President.  Even if there were a plan, no Democrat would vote for it because their future bid for re-election and the money required, controlled by the DNC and Democrat leadership, would be in jeopardy.

The Democrats, on the other hand, always speak with a unified voice, and held the House and Senate during President Obama’s first term but did absolutely nothing.  Why is that?  Simple.  They don’t really want to solve the problem.   The far Left has taken over the Democrat party and doesn’t want illegal immigration restrictions.  They want chaos.  They want amnesty.  They want open borders.  They want everyone to be able to come into the United States whenever they want, from wherever they are, and whoever they are.  And, most of all, they want an ever-increasing voter base.

Complicit with the Left, the media play a huge part in this fight.  They falsely “report” the news, misleading the American public, and hell bent on taking down this President no matter how dishonest they are.  Most Americans don’t have the time or stomach to research the truth.  Rather, they rely on the media’s sensational headlines and talking points.

Prior to the President’s recent executive order regarding the separation of families, the media failed to adequately distinguish between (1) someone who crossed our border illegally, and who would then be put into detention, a situation which, according to the courts, did not allow for children to be placed with their law-breaking parent, and (2) a person seeking asylum at the border (U.S.C. 1158) who would then be allowed to remain with their children pending a hearing on their request.  Have the American people been informed of this enormous difference?  No.  After dozens of hours of research, I can only conclude that everyone will be instructed to request asylum (the alleged facts of which can never be proven) and the idiotic policy of “catch and release” will continue.

Instead, the media prefer to resurrect the dark images from the mid-twentieth century making the appalling comparison that illegal immigrants, both adults and children, are being held in Nazi concentration-type camps. Such a comparison is so offensive and disparages the millions of people who actually suffered and died under the Nazi’s horrific conditions.  Shame on them.

No news outlet is adequately reporting about the problems.  No news outlet is reporting on the immigrants traveling from Central America and the facilitation by the government of Mexico to allow them to travel to our border.  Or about the graft and bribery paid to officials to allow such migration.  Or about the coyotes, gangs and cartels involved.  Or about people selling their children in order to secure their own crossing.  Or how unaccompanied children are arriving at the border.  Or what the migrants are instructed to say at the border if they’re caught.  Or about Mexico and the Central American countries that cannot provide safety, security, education and jobs for their own citizens to such an extent that their citizens are forced to seek those things elsewhere.  Where is the outcry from the Left and the U.N. about the conditions under which people must live in their own countries?  Why are they so eager to condemn President Trump for this mess?  Because they hate him and want this immigration issue to be his downfall since the “Russian collusion” nonsense isn’t working.

The truth is the media, career politicians and especially the Democrat Party care nothing about illegal immigrants.  They are merely pawns in a political game.  What solution is being offered?  None.  Rather, we’re bombarded with soundbites from the likes of Sen. Chuck Schumer and Rep. Nancy Pelosi and images attributed to the Trump administration (when, in fact, the photos were from the Obama era) and (dishonest) photoshopped magazine covers depicting the President as a despicable human being.

I do know one thing.  We will never be able to solve the issue of illegal immigration without a strong border.  If we don’t have a strong border, we are not a country.  Period.

I don’t get it, but if you do, God bless you.

…And Justice for All?

There’s a lot about the Department of Justice that I just don’t get.  The main thing I don’t get, though, is Eric Holder, the Attorney General.  In the last two years, he’s done a lot of very strange things.

Most recently, the DOJ decided to try terrorist Ahmed Ghailani in a civil trial, rather than a military tribunal, which turned out to be a disaster.  Just this week, he was acquitted of 279 counts and found guilty of only one count of conspiracy to destroy government property.  Nice going, Mr. Holder.

Last year, the DOJ announced it intended to try the self-proclaimed mastermind of the 9/11 attacks, Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, in NYC as well, despite overwhelming opposition from both political parties.  Although Holder’s had a change of heart regarding Mohammed’s trial, I’m hoping that this latest fiasco in the Ghailani trial was a wake-up call and showed Holder and the Obama administration that it would be a very big mistake to pursue civil trials for Mohammed and other terrorists.

Mr. Holder ordered the FBI to give the Christmas Day underwear bomber Miranda warnings without even consulting intelligence officials.

In May of this year, before the House Judiciary Committee, Mr. Holder wouldn’t allow himself to concede that terrorists are motivated by “radical Islam.”  No matter how many times he was asked, he just couldn’t say it.

In the same month, Holder went to Oakland, California’s Youth Uprising and criticized the Arizona Immigration Law as being “divisive” with the potential for racial profiling being increased.  Yet, on May 13, before the House Judiciary Committee, he admitted he hadn’t even read the law.

How does the Attorney General of the United States stand up and criticize a state for trying to protect its citizens by passing a law, which mirrors the federal law by the way, when he hasn’t even read the law?

Now, the federal government will end up spending God knows how many taxpayers’ dollars, in its lawsuit against the state of Arizona despite the fact that 50% of Americans oppose the lawsuit and only 33% approve it.  Sixty-one percent of Americans favor passage of a similar law in their own states.  Does Holder plan to sue every state which enacts a similar law?

What I don’t get is if the DOJ is so concerned about Arizona’s law conflicting with federal law, why isn’t it pursuing lawsuits against sanctuary cities which go out of their way to protect illegal aliens, contrary to existing federal law?

Now, the DOJ is reporting on New Jersey Republican Gov. Chris Christie spending $2,176 more than the budgeted hotel rate allows.  Wow.

But it’s the DOJ’s handling of the New Black Panther Party that worries me the most.

On Election Day in 2008, two New Black Panther Party members in paramilitary gear stood outside a polling place with batons harassing whites claiming to be “security.”  When I saw it, I thought, ok, you’ve got a couple of thugs trying to intimidate people.  Their guy won so that’s the end of the story.  Well, think again.

The Bush Justice Department brought a civil complaint against three members of the group alleging violations of the Voting Rights Act.  While the Obama administration won a default judgment in federal court, it inexplicably moved to dismiss the charges after getting one of the Party members to agree not to carry a “deadly weapon” near a polling place until 2012.  Such a deal but, I said, what the hey, that was the end of the story.  Well, think yet again.

Since that time, an ex-official at the DOJ, J. Christian Adams, has testified before the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, that the DOJ has repeatedly showed “hostility” toward those cases which involved black defendants.  While he believed the lawsuit was an “open and shut case,” he said the DOJ’s hostility towards cases involving black defendants was “pervasive.”  The DOJ, of course, has denied those statements.

Another prosecutor at the DOJ, Christopher Coates, testified at the same Commission and said the “downgrading of the case against the New Black Panther Party was evidence of a Justice Department culture which discouraged ‘race neutral’ enforcement of civil rights laws.”  He said that, after President Obama and Eric Holder took office, the “culture” intensified leading to his departure as chief of the voting rights section early this year.  The whole thing, as my mother used to say, “stinks on ice.”

What makes it even more disturbing is that one of those vile thugs at the polling place, King Samir Shabazz, the New Black Panther Party’s Philadelphia leader who professes to hate all white people, is heard saying if the black man wants freedom, he’s going to have to kill some crackers and their babies.  If you don’t believe me, see for yourself.

On the one hand, there’s Mr. Holder saying that we’re to engage one another in talking about race, and, on the other hand, according to Messrs. Adams and Coates, the DOJ systematically ignores cases which involve black defendants and white victims.

So what happened to blind justice?  What’s the reasoning behind these decisions?  The DOJ had won the civil lawsuit against the three defendants and then, after Eric Holder took over, moved to dismiss the case which raises serious concerns about his leadership.

If we’re supposed to have an honest discussion about all this, then I think Mr. Holder owes the American people an explanation as to why he dismissed the Election Day lawsuit.  I’d like to know why Shabazz wasn’t charged with hate speech or, at the very least, with disturbing the peace as a result of his statements shown in the video.

I can only imagine what would happen to me if I stood on the streets of Seattle and said that I hated every black person and we should kill some black people and their babies.  There is no question in my mind that I would be arrested and prosecuted.  So, why not Shabazz?  The failure to prosecute him certainly supports the statements of Messrs. Adams and Coates.

I don’t get it, but, if you do, God bless you.

Can You Say Chutzpah? Or Should I Say Descaro?

I believe in legal immigration – my father came to this great country in 1924 from Germany and never looked back.  But he came here legally through Ellis Island.

I’m absolutely opposed to illegal immigration and believe it’s despicable that people can break our laws and still benefit from living in this great nation.  I doubt any one of us could illegally emigrate to another country and reap any benefits from that country.  More than likely, we’d be jailed or deported.

I believe every country is a sovereign nation and should enact and enforce its own laws for the protection of its own people.  I am a firm believer in a strong southern border and have no problem with a wall or anything else which will prevent the flow of illegal immigrants into our country.

For decades, our government has been lax in protecting our southern border and has been remiss in failing to enforce our immigration laws.  Because of political correctness and politics, numerous sanctuary cities are permitted to violate federal law throughout this country with impunity.

But when one of our own states enacts a law, which mirrors the federal law, our own government unbelievably sues that state for what it perceives to be discriminatory practices.

Enter Mexican President Felipe Calderón who came to our country in April and criticized the Arizona Immigration Law saying that it “opens the door to intolerance, hate and discrimination.”

Unless you’ve been living on another planet with no access to the internet, you’ve got to know what a violent and corrupt country Mexico has become.  Clearly, she doesn’t give all her people the opportunity to obtain a decent standard of living, causing millions to escape the poverty and cross illegally into our country to achieve, at least, a modest lifestyle.

Corruption and drug-related violence is rampant.  Just this summer, Mexican prison guards let prisoners free and gave them the guns so they could murder others.  This prison-based hit squad was linked to three mass shootings in Northern Mexico.  Mexican drug cartels have placed a $250,000 bounty for the kidnapping or murder of our border patrol agents.  Our own State Department warns about the extreme violence on the border.  Earlier this year, rancher, Rob Krentz, was murdered on his property probably by a drug smuggler.  His family had received numerous threats in the past by illegal aliens trespassing on their property.

Not a week goes by when I don’t hear another report about a homicide committed by an illegal immigrant in this country.  I just read that California has the highest number of serial rapes and murders, sexual homicides, and child molestation offenses committed by illegal immigrants.  The study showed that 2% of illegal immigrants, or 240,000, are sex offenders.  It may not sound like a very big number to some, but why is even one illegal alien who is a sex offender allowed to remain in this country.  We have enough of our own deviants, we don’t need any more.

So when I listen to President Calderón criticize Arizona’s right to protect her citizens but does not see the hypocrisy when Mexico builds her own wall on its own southern border with Guatemala, I have to say to myself, is this chutzpah, or what?   The “official” reason for the Guatemalan wall is to stop contraband from coming into Mexico, but, Mexican Superintendent of Tax Administration, Raul Diaz, admitted: “It could also prevent the free passage of illegal immigrants.”  Can you believe this?

When he was asked whether people from Central America can just walk into Mexico, President Calderón said they needed to fill out a form with their correct name and then authorities check to see if the person has a criminal background.  When asked whether people who “sneaked in” could get a job, he answered, “if somebody do that without permission, we send them back.”  Obviously, Mexico doesn’t have an ACLU looming behind every bodega in Mexico waiting to file lawsuits for civil rights’ violations of every immigrant illegally working and picked up by the police and sent back to their own country.

I guess what really made my head spin was when a coalition of Mexican mayors asked the U.S. to stop deporting illegal immigrants who’ve been convicted of crimes in the U.S. to the Mexican border because they’re contributing to the border violence.  The Mayor of Juarez blamed our deportation policies for his city’s violence saying that of the 80,000 deported to Juarez in the past three years, 28,000 had U.S. criminal records, including 7,000 convicted rapists and 2,000 convicted murderers.  Get this:  the Mexican mayors said the U.S. should fly these convicts to their hometowns, not just bus them to the border!

So, I guess it isn’t enough that we’ve had to absorb upwards of 11 million illegal immigrants, but when our immigration laws are actually enforced, convictions are obtained, sentences are served, and deportations actually take place, we now have to deliver these criminals to their front doors.  Can you say descaro?

I really don’t get this, but if you do, God bless you.
