It happened in Athens, Georgia. The Alabama Crimson Tide was playing the Georgia Bulldogs that day. For those of you who have never watched a game in Athens, Georgia, well it doesn’t get much hotter than it does there in Sanford stadium “Between the Hedges”, as they call it. The stadium sorta sits down low, like in a saucer, making the heat worse than if it was on a hill where there might be a breeze.
As you may know, ladies always want to wear their newest outfit to a game, even at the beginning of football season in September, and back in the day, when this happened, in all probability, the dress was wool. My mother and father-in-law were sitting close to a couple, and as the story goes, the lady had a bit too much to drink. Suddenly, she stood up, and in a loud voice announced, “IF Y’ALL HAVE NEVER SEEN A SLIP BEFORE TODAY, YOU’RE GOING TO NOW”, and with no more fanfare she took her dress off, and proceeded to watch the rest of the game in her slip. As far as I know, she wasn’t arrested. These days, I guess you could strip down to your birthday suit and no one would even notice, but things were different then. Who won the game? Who knows? Who cared!!!
