It was a long, bitter Democratic presidential primary, but Senator Bernie Sanders finally stepped up to the microphone this morning to publicly endorse his party’s presumptive nominee, Hillary Clinton.
The move wasn’t unexpected, but it likely disappointed a number of loyal Sanders supporters who were true believers in their candidate’s crusade against the Washington and Wall Street power structures that Clinton has spent much of her career ingrained in.
Another person disappointed by the endorsement was presumptive Republican presidential nominee, Donald Trump. He took to Twitter shortly before the official announcement, and tweeted:
“Bernie Sanders, who has lost most of his leverage, has totally sold out to Crooked Hillary Clinton. He will endorse her today – fans angry!”
Shortly after the endorsement, he added:
“I am somewhat surprised that Bernie Sanders was not true to himself and his supporters. They are not happy that he is selling out!”
“Bernie sanders has abandoned his supporters by endorsing pro-war pro-TPP pro-Wall Street Crooked Hillary Clinton.”
Personally, I think it’s great that Mr. Trump believes it’s wrong for people to sell out their principles to support an unacceptable candidate for the purpose of unifying a political party. I very much agree with him.
On behalf of the #NeverTrump crowd, I would like to thank Mr. Trump for his blessing of our principled stance not to vote for him in November.
I would also hope that his loyal, enthusiastic supporters (including voters, pundits, and political operatives) will heed their candidate’s thoughtful sentiments, and share in his admiration for our decision and moral foundation.
Lastly, I’m more than happy to begin accepting apologizes from those of you who’ve been calling me names like “turncoat”, “RINO”, “establishment”, “liberal”, and “cuckservative” because of my stance, which your guy — Mr. Trump — finds so doggone respectable. Everyone makes mistakes, after all, so my arms are wide open.
