The White House War on FOX

The White House war against FOX News has just escalated.  Now it’s not simply the president’s relatively unknown director of communications going on CNN to denounce FOX as some kind of phony news organization.  Now, the president has rolled out the big guns.

On ABC’s “This Week,” White House senior advisor David Axelrod told George Stephanopoulos that FOX is “not really a news station” and that much of what they put on the air at FOX News is “not  really news.”  FOX News, he said, “respresents a point of view.”

Meanwhile, over at CNN, the president’s chief-of-staff, Rahm Emanuel, told John King  that Fox “is not a news organization so much as it has a perspective.”

“I suppose the way to look at it and the way … the president looks at it, we look at it is: It’s not a news organization so much as it has a perspective. And that’s a different take. And more importantly, is not have the CNNs and the others in the world basically be led in following Fox, as if what they’re trying to do is a legitimate news organization …”

And there it is – the White House strategy clearly articulated.  What the president and his team are trying to do by going to war with FOX is convince the so-called mainstream media to think long and hard before running a story that FOX ran with – or run the risk of being tarnished as a FOX lackey and not a real news organization either.

Remember that it was FOX – not the big, supposedly objective, unbiased “mainstream media” that ran with the Van Jones story.  It was FOX that kept the ACORN story alive. Both legitimate news stories.  And remember that it was only after FOX wouldn’t let go of those stories that Van Jones (who wanted an investigation to learn if President Bush was somehow behind the 9/11 attacks on the United States)  resigned in the middle of the night.  And only then did most of the so-called mainstream media discover that this was actually news.  The New York Times didn’t run a single word about Van Jones – until after he resigned.  And since most other news outfits take their cues from the Times, most of them didn’t go with the story either, until very late in the day.

And if FOX hadn’t run those videos showing ACORN employes in several cities giving advice to a  “pimp” and his “ho” on how to set up a brothel in this country featuring young (very young) girls from Central America … there’s a good chance that none of those so-called unbiased “mainstream” news operations would have run the videos or covered the story.

That’s why the White House has gone to war with FOX:  to discourage other news organizations, friendly news organizations that have been slobbering over the president since he started running, that they should not lower themselves and “legitimize” a story that pretty much only FOX cared about.

And, let’s be honest:  If the White House were really concerned about fair play, about calling out news operations with biased “perspecives,” Axelrod and Emmanuel would have said something about MSNBC.  That operation is one great big biased “perspective.” But they didn’t.  Why?  Because they have no problem with “perspective” as long as it’s their perspective that’s being peddled.

But I don’t believe that this is simply a strategy aimed at the media. This isn’t only about trying to convince ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC and the print press to shy away from “FOX stories.” No, I think the strategy goes way beyond that.  This is, I believe, a long term game plan aimed at influencing not just their journalistic pals, but also the bigger American culture in general.

If the White House can get the word out that FOX is not legitimate, that FOX is a political outfit not a news organization, if they can repeat the mantra long enough, perhaps, over time, it just might become an idea that is widely and uncritically accepted – mainly by Americans who are not especially political, and more than likely don’t even watch FOX News.

Yes, there’s enough on FOX to detest if you’re in the White House.  One or two people on the network suffer from ODS – Obama Derangement Sydrome.  And I was a critic of those who didn’t simply cover the Tea Parties but were cheerleading them on.  But that’s not the entirety of FOX News.  Chris Wallace is a serious journalist.  So is Brit Hume and Brett Baier and many others.  The White House, it seems, paints with a broad brush in condemning the entire network.  And besides, it’s one thing for run-of-the-bill liberals, both in and out of the media, to portray FOX as nothing more than an arm of the Republican National Party, a phony news organization that should not be taken seriously. But there’s something unseemly when the President of the United States is leading the crusade.  Is this man so vain that he needs every news organization to slobber over him?

But beware:  Once an idea is implanted in the culture, once it is seen as “THE TRUTH,” it’s hard to un-do the damage.  In other words, the White House strategy just might work.

If I would have died twenty years ago I’d be rolling over in my grave now…I look forward to turning on FOX and watching Glenn Beck while I prepare dinner. I was a “hippie Lefty” as someone so eloquently put it. If I need a label, then I guess I am a classical liberal.

The events in our country in this past year were a real eye-opener for me and I’m betting there are thousands of people like me. In fact, I’m sure there are–I saw them at our congressman’s health care rally. There were over 600 of us and we never made the local news. Yes, my congressman had a burly guy on either side of him–I didn’t know what the SEIU on their tshirts stood for at that time. I thought they were bodyguards. I stayed till the end because I couldn’t believe what I saw–practically the entire crowd told our congressman we didn’t want him to back the Administration’s Health Care plans; fix Medicare first…our robotic-like young Dem congressman only had four answers programmed into his brain, none of which fit any of the questions he fielded.

So, Bernie, please take a message back to FOX. Yes, on the whole, they’re doing a good job. But I think FOX will open more eyes if they can stick to what they propose: airing balanced news. Balance to me doesn’t mean balancing the news broadcast by the networks–why did FOX waste my time making a big deal out of Obama bowing to the Japanese? That’s petty. I just want a balanced broadcast. I’d appreciate it if FOX looked hard for just one thing a day that’s praiseworthy of the Administration. Why? Because I can’t find anything and it’s depressing! How’s this? Charlie Gibson actually reported on the stimulus/recovery bogus info web site!!! How about acknowledging that? What’s peculiar is that the same day he broke that story ABC’s email-heads up about the evening news sported the subject “President Obama’s as Popular as Ever.” WTF?

O’Reilly is hard to watch. I try to ignore his personality which gets in the way. He’s overbearing and that’s a turn-off. I’ve grown to like Glenn Beck a lot but when the show hits minute 42, well, he’s just too much at that point. I have to turn him off. O’Reilly doesn’t interview people so much as he seems to slap them around which isn’t pleasant to watch.

Lay-off the Roman Polanski stories or find a different slant, FOX! Put the crime back in the context of the times–for crying out loud, the girl who was molested explained what happened, did any of you listen? The stranger thing to me is why Polanski was picked up NOW? A certain Polish community feels Obama is sending a message to Polish Americans who speak up against the Administration’s decision regarding Poland and missiles…Who cares about Hollywood society crap from the 70s? Not me.

So, I’ve seen the light. Thank you to Bernie Goldberg, Dinesh D’Souza, Glenn Beck, Adam Tooze, Michael Burleigh, Amity Schlaes…

Enough from me…Thanks, Bernie, keep up the good work and good writing.

FNC is the brightest, freshest, most stimulating, thought provoking, exciting, informative, and entertaining news channel on the tube. As cliched as this may sound by now, they are indeed the most fair & balanced news organization out there. Yeah, Beck & Hannity do push the envelope but in view of the way things are going in this Country today, shouldn’t we all be pushing the envelope a little bit more? Beck just wants answers to important questions. Answers we can all understand. Sean was ostracized during the election by warning of a ‘radical agenda’ on the horizon. Well, what would you call what’s happening to our Country now? We have all these czars, unapproved by Congress making policy, unaccountable to no one. Our Country may be on the verge of bankruptcy, our safety & security may be compromised. How scary is that? If Glenn & Sean force you to think too much or ask questions, then focus more on the morning shows, Cavuto, Brit Hume, Special report w/ Bret Baier, O’Reilly & Greta. They give it to us straight every time. I for one am grateful to Fox for all that they do and provide. The more the WH wages war on Fox, the more people are turning to the very station that they are trying to destroy. People who never watched Fox before wonder as Marvin Gaye used to sing, ‘What’s Goin’ On’. Oh, so that’s what I’ve been missing! Gotcha’!

Fox news would be better off if they got rid of shawn and glen. Those guys just rant and rant. If you turn the volume off and just watch those guys for a moment you will see what i mean. And when i shut the TV off and go into the world, i run into their clones. They have clones everywhere! They just yell RABEL RABEL RABEL!! GREAT AMERICAN!!! RABEL RABEL RABEL!! And then if you dont like those guys, people automatcally assume you are liberal…..they dont even know your position on any issues, but you are automatically labeled a liberal. Dont let them do it either, cuz one day those same people will have numbers tattooed on your hand and you know what comes next. As for Obama, give him time, its way too early to hate him. Anyway, fellow lovers of democracy and the republic, Obama did win the election by the largest majority in 20 years. The people have decided. You and i got just what we wanted……just enjoy.

I use to call myself republican….but now i’m a conservative. I am retired Air Force and now work for the air force at bogram afganistan. I just dont like how Sean and Glenn patronise everyone. Great american this and great american that. As if when you dont have their views, you are an enemy…. as if they set the standard of great american. I load 3 or 4 dead marines every day on to C17s to fly out of here. And i certain Sean and Glenn are phisically fit and young enough to come over here and serve….. Imagine that… cant. Great american my ass. Fuck them. THey dont know a damn thiing about great american. That is why i said fox need to get rid of sean and glenn.

Also, since Obama won the election by a very large majority….doesnt that make seans and glenns rants almost antiamerican??

Gun ownership is important constitutional right. Politicians think harder when they have constituency armed to defend their own. It makes them seek common ground. In other countries politicians just don’t care what people think after elections. In America those Washington Dummies know that if they screw really hard – a civil unrest may erupt. Armed constituency keeps the Dudes in power in check at all times. It is the Cowardly Politician’s dream to disarm the people. The right to carry arms is the ultimate protection for the people against government gone crazy.

This is a copy of an e-mail that I just received from a friend—I think that it is a worth-while

If George W. Bush had been the first President to need a teleprompter installed to be able to get through a press conference, would you have laughed and said this is more proof of how inept he is on his own and is really controlled by smarter men behind the scenes?

If George W. Bush had spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to take Laura Bush to a play in NYC, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had reduced your retirement plan’s holdings of GM stock by 90% and given the unions a majority stake in GM, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had made a joke at the expense of the Special Olympics, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had given Gordon Brown a set of inexpensive and incorrectly formatted DVDs, when Gordon Brown had given him a thoughtful and historically significant gift, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had given the Queen of England an iPod containing videos of his speeches, would you have thought this embarrassingly narcissistic and tacky?

If George W. Bush had bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had visited Austria and made reference to the non-existent “Austrian language,” would you have brushed it off as a minor slip?

If George W. Bush had filled his cabinet and circle of advisers with people who cannot seem to keep current in their income taxes, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had been so Spanish illiterate as to refer to “Cinco de Cuatro” in front of the Mexican ambassador when it was the 5th of May (Cinco de Mayo), and continued to flub it when he tried again, would you have winced in embarrassment?

If George W. Bush had mis-spelled the word “advice” would you have hammered him for it for years likeDan Quayle and potatoe as proof of what a dunce he is?

If George W. Bush had burned 9,000 gallons of jet fuel to go plant a single tree on Earth Day, would you have concluded he’s a hypocrite?

If George W. Bush’s administration had okayed Air Force One flying low over millions of people followed by a jet fighter in downtown Manhattan causing widespread panic, would you have wondered whether they actually get what happened on 9-11?

If George W. Bush had failed to send relief aid to flood victims throughout the Midwest with more people killed or made homeless than in New Orleans, would you want it made into a major ongoing political issue with claims of racism and incompetence?

If George W. Bush had ordered the firing of the CEO of a major corporation, even though he had no constitutional authority to do so, would you have approved?

If George W Bush had proposed to double the national debt, which had taken more than two centuries to accumulate, in one year, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had then proposed to double the debt again within 10 years, would you have approved?

So tell me again, what is it about Obama that makes him so brilliant and impressive? Can’t think of anything? Don’t worry. He’s done all this in just five months — so you’ll have three years and seven months to come up with an answer.

    • Wil Burns

Now now Craig, remember all the great things Bush has done. He stopped 9/11… wait… he caught bin Laden… wait… Afghanistan… Iraq… Iran… North Korea… wait, he did nothing good for any of those issues. And, didn’t he kill 4300 soldiers, empty the Treasury and set the Middle East on fire.

You are trying to avoid blaming Bush and th Republicans for the mess we’re in. I knew from the start of Bush’s ill-starred “election” in 2000 that we’d have nothing but recession and war!

Obama is going to need more the 8 months, to clean up Bush’s 8 years of madness!

      • Stephen Shields Springfield, IL

Wil, stopped 9/11? if your predecessor ignores something and fails to brief you on it does that make it your fault? so you are telling all of us that President George W. Bush personally took the lives of 4300 soldiers? How about how a majority of congress voted for the Iraq war, thus making it LEGAL. Empty the treasury? Do you know how our economic system works in the United States? Ill starred election? O because Al Gore was just the guy for the job… I mean after all he invented the internet and let us all know about the importance of Global Warming… And you ended your factless web of liberal bull crap so eloquently with your ready made response… “He hasn’t had enough time because Bush messed everything up!” not only are you the worst kind of liberal but you are the worst of the worst… your liberal propaganda-esque phoney baloney that our buffoon of a President read to you from his trillion dollar teleprompter is equal to horse manure… btw I thought Bush sucked as a President but not because of anything you listed… I thought he was a sellout to the Nanci Pelosi, Harry Reid, and Barrack Obama types… there will come a day and very soon when you libs get your comeuppance and are put back in your place… a VERY SILENT MINORITY!

        • Wil Burns

          1) sold all your jobs to the 3rd world;
          2) gave your government’s budget surplus to the wealthy;
          3) started and ineptly waged catastrophic wars;
          4) caused the greatest economic disaster since the Great Depression;
          5) ignored clear evidence of planning for 9/11 and ignored it;
          6) set up illegal detention centers around the world and tortured people.

          Just to name a few.

          • Stephen Shields Springfield, IL

            1) sold all your jobs to the 3rd world companies… WRONG

Bush had nothing to do with that because he has no control over what private businesses do and where they have their jobs

            2) gave your government’s budget surplus to the wealthy… WRONG

The Clinton adminstrations “Budget Surplus” was phoney and never really a surplus because they didn’t use the proper accounting methods

            3) started and ineptly wage catastrophic wars… WRONG

congress almost unanimously voted to go to war with the information that was at hand… if you think for one second that George W Bush or any other President for that matter intentionally goes to war just for kicks and giggles then you are as clueless as I thought

            4) caused the greatest economic disaster since the Great Depression… WRONG

The economic disaster is a culmination of decisions made by people that Clinton, Bush, and Obama surrounded themselves with… to blame a single person for the economic disaster is absolutely ludicrous and just goes to show how much of a liberal hack you really are

            5) ignored clear evidence of planning for 9/11 and ignored it… WRONG AND REDUNDANT

To suggest that a President just let that happen is propsterous… if Clinton had taken care of Bin Laden like was suggested the problem would have been solved…

            6) set up illegal detention center around the world and tortured people… WRONG

Those prisons were perfectly legal and no one was tortured by law… you may want to protect the same people that caused 9/11 but I want information extracted from them even if that means they are water boarded with a full medical staff right there…

In conclusion… your liberal talking points were very nicely organized but are undoubtedly nothing but propoganda and lies…

  • Xian Do

I admit that I am puzzled as to why the Obama Administration is doing this, but here is my guess:

Instead of putting partisan politics aside & moving beyond issues such as race, as he promised during his presidential campaign, Obama seems to be trying to polarize us further…both the Left and the Right…in the hopes of fortifying his base.
Creating more fervent and devoted followers will also make them more compliant followers.
And fervent, compliant followers would be willing to do anything to help the Obama Administration get what they want…not to mention help to suppress, stifle, or even fight any opposition to the Obama Administration & its goals.

It seems that Obama really does want an ideological war in America…and it also seems that he has already knows which side is going to win…

…if he has anything to say about it, I mean.

I hope I’m wrong because this really scares me.

“What the president and his team are trying to do by going to war with FOX is convince the so-called mainstream media to think long and hard before running a story that FOX ran with – or run the risk of being tarnished as a FOX lackey and not a real news organization either.”

Bernie, I’m wondering what you think of this 3 point strategy for Fox.

    1) Keep doing what it’s doing, of course.
    2) Stop inviting administration folks to be on the air.
    3) Respectfully decline administration offers to be on the air.

No need to hoot and holler about it.
The video of appearances on other people’s air is available anyway.

As Fox’s reach grows, any Administration will need Fox to reach Fox’s audience more than Fox needs them to have an audience. It’s not as if any White House administration people are open or candid in interviews any more anyway. Those days seem long gone.

    Your thoughts, Bernie?

    • Alan

Fox can’t refuse to have administration officials on the air. The reason so many people watch Fox is that Fox actually covers both sides of the story. I think it’s better for Fox’s ratings if they continue to invite the administration, even as the administration declines.

I watch Glenn Beck every night to see if Anita Dunn will call in.

OBAMA: “They get confused sometimes, watch FoxNews or listen to talk radio. That’s dangerous sometimes.”

So, Mr. Obama made this statement in March 2004, BEFORE his run for President, even BEFORE becoming a Senator. It’s interesting that he just threw this comment into his answer when the question didn’t have anything to do with the media!

Seems our President had formed an opinion of Fox News/talk radio long before hitting the national stage. And, don’t you love what he thinks of their viewers/listeners “they get CONFUSED sometimes”?

What’s up with him describing people watching and listening to FNC/talk radio as “DANGEROUS”?

Obviously, his opinion is something that had developed way before receiving any criticisms from the commentators on FNC, therefore, this isn’t just him being a big old crybaby who is too thin-skinned to handle any negativity about his policies, etc…

This appears to be an “agenda” type thing based on thoughts as early as March 2004…

    • Alan

Take a survey of Fox News critics. I’m willing to bet that about 95% of them have never even watched the channel.

  • EddieD_Boston

The looney left fringe believes that FOX isn’t a news channel (FAUX News, ha ha). The Obama Administration is populated by looney liberals so it’s not a real surprise that they believe this. However America is begnning to figure it out, hence the sinking poll numbers. This will backfire on them. They’re being exposed and that’s not going to help them move their agenda along. Also, picking on FOX is pathetic. Nobody likes a crybaby. Liberals are too clueless to get that though and this whinning will continue.

What I find amazing is the lack of reaction by the “journalism community at large” on the Obama-Fox feud. I guess the “mainstream journalism community” has become nothing more than a special interest group. This is scary stuff. No one should be surprised at the administration’s attack against Fox, given its roots in Chicago “knee-break” politics. This is Third World stuff. If I were Fox (or Roger Ailes), I would air video (or run ads) of Hugo Chavez and other dictators attacking media in their countries … then point out how many news organizations have been taken over, or shut down, by these dictators. This would be followed by clips of Obama and his people attacking Fox.
I would end the piece with a statement/question: “This is how media censorship starts; is that what is soon coming to America?”

In my view, a well placed and timed story that demonstrates how screwed-up the Obama Administration is is superior to someone like Glenn Beck ranting nightly. Obama would like everyone to think that Fox News is about guys like Beck and Hannity and that’s it. They ignore journalists who do a great and fair job. However, Back and Hannity are not journalists, but admitted advocates of the conservative viewpoint, the flip side of the coin that are Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann on MSNBC.

While Glenn Beck is not my cup of tea, when the man has the goods on corrupt officials, or officials who are clearly or admittedly socialist, love Mao Tse Tung, or are otherwise anti-American, good for him. The silence of the MSM can be deafening and should come back to bite them when they do not cover a legitimate story, such as leftist Van Jones and the silly Mao-lover, Anita Dunn.

President Bush took fire from all sides, including FOX News while in office and yet this bunch of amateurish pansies in the Obama administration can’t even deal with a little heat from one media outlet… The one thing that is becoming more obvious everyday is that Fox is at least ten times more of a genuine news outlet than Obama is a real genuine man with any class or gonads.

Cathleen Falsani, (aka GG), the author of The God Factor: Inside the Spiritual Lives of Public People, interviewed Barack Obama about his faith March 27, 2004, a few days after he clinched the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate seat that he eventually won.

Here is one of Cathleen Falsani’s many questions during her lengthy interview with Barack Obama, which seems to clearly reflect what Mr. Obama thought of Fox News/talk radio even back in 2004.

GG: Do you ever have people who know you’re a Christian question a particular stance you take on an issue, how can you be a Christian and …

OBAMA: Like the right to choose. I haven’t been challenged in those direct ways. And to that extent, I give the public a lot of credit. I’m always stuck by how much common sense the American people have. They get confused sometimes, watch FoxNews or listen to talk radio. That’s dangerous sometimes. But generally, Americans are tolerant and I think recognize that faith is a personal thing, and they may feel very strongly about an issue like abortion or gay marriage, but if they discuss it with me as an elected official they will discuss it with me in those terms and not, say, as ‘you call yourself a Christian.’ I cannot recall that ever happening.

P.S. I do have the entire interview saved if interested in reading the entire transcript.

I’m still waiting for the White House to discuss the bias found on CNN, MSNBC, ABC News, NBC News, CBS News, The New York Times, The Washingon Post, The Huffington Post, etc.

I’m not holding my breath, obviously, because I can’t hold it that long.

The current ‘shadow government” in the WH all came from the best Ivy League universities where they practiced “speech codes” on a daily basis (as do most other college campuses). Are we surprised that the expensive education their parent’s paid for is now fully out in the open? They would not allow dissenting view points on campus – why should they stop now with Fox News just because it is not on “campus”? An Ivy League education is a terrible thing to waste!

Truth is the enemy of an oppresive regime. Silence the truth, supplant it with your own “truth,” and the people will fall in line. If the truth is brought to light, the oppressors will work harder to suppress it or cover it up. But as was stated in the Bible, “Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.” (John 8:32) As long as responsible news organizations provide us with the true facts of a story, and let us make up our own minds (yes, we do have them), we can quickly discern what’s going on and what we need to do. But when they push their propagandistic garbage on us day after day, those who choose not to think for themselves begin to see this as the “truth,” and the divide widens. I can’t see, for example, NBC standing up to the President, but it’s possible (perhaps not likely, but possible) that CBS, CNN, and maybe ABC would see through what’s going on and decline to take part. (Well, maybe not ABC. And CNN might be a stretch.) CBS has shown some ability to report the truth, albeit in small amounts. And I have to admit, some of the talkers on Fox are too shrill – and I still think Bill O’Reilly is a bully. But they all bring up good points, which we ignore at our peril. Hopefully, most Americans will see through what the administration is trying to do, and stop it. After all, Fox’s ratings are through the roof, and will no doubt grow – and a recent poll featured on NewsBusters (I think – might have been Newsmax) shows many of Fox’s viewers are either Independent or – *shudder* – Democrat.

“Mouthpiece” of the GOP? Or voice of the Republic? As they say, “we report – you decide.” And do it quick, before we’re swallowed by a Marxist flood.

Obama’s promised “…fundamental transformation…” wouldn’t be so scary if we had a Congress that obeyed what is often referred to as “the highest law of the land”, i.e. the U.S. Constitution.
The Congress quite literally holds the Constitution in contempt. What authority, for example, does it have to legislate health care? What authority does it have to mandate that all Americans purchase health care. That authority is not to be found in Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution.
An ex-Marxist myself, there has never been a time since I knew of him that I didn’t believe Obama to be a Marxist – either tacitly or implicitly. And with a tool as useful as a Congress not bound by the Constitution, a Marxist program is being installed in America’s government.
For more on Constitutional authority, see my website:

    • Kim

I agree, but they are not trying to legislate healthCARE…they are trying to mandate healthINSURANCE. That;s what drives me crazy. HealthCARE is available to ALL americans. You may have to sit through a long emergency room wait or go to a clinic, but these are the choices we all make. What happened to personal responsibility?

  • Linda N.

I think Anita “Milhous” Dunn is Obama’s Goebbels (Hitler’s propoganda minister). The push to tell OTHER media outlets to dismiss Fox is the scariest thing of all. I think it says something substantial when even the very left wing Helen Thomas is speaking out against the WH war on FoxNews.

    • bmmg39

Jake Tapper also deserves a great deal of props for pressing the administration on this latest move.

    • Marlson

      Mao good. Fox bad.

Somehow that makes sense to them.

A lie told often enough becomes the truth.

Obama’s WH are following their idol’s advice.

  • ParadoxProject

Thanks for your Honest, unbiased opinion.
I don’t care what network you’re with as long as you point out the truth in the story.
Truth is all we’re looking for.

  • TK

I agree with Mr. Goldberg that “once an idea is implanted in the culture, once it is seen as ‘the truth,’ it’s hard to undo the damage.”So in other words, perception is reality. The same way his supporters are trying to silence opposition by calling them racists, they are trying to do the same with FOX. They are marginalizing the network and their viewers. I have heard for years from friends and the media that Fox is right leaning. Of course the blogs have led this crusade. So what if they lean right. One media outlet gets to actually present another side of the issues. MSNBC trashed Bush relentlessly every night. The rest of the media wasted no time in jumping in any time they saw a misstep. Not with Obama, however. They agree with him, so these things are overlooked. They are not shy about it either. The bigger story is that the Obama administration is trying to stiffle free speech. If they force Fox to change or decrease viewers or the Fairness doctrine takes effect, then there will be no opposing views expressed. That, my friends, is communism. Ellie expressed the same concern in her comment. My mother-in-law and father-in-law were born in Poland under communism and have first hand accounts of what goes on. The government starts small and then the crack down grows and grows until people are afraid to say anything against those in power.

    • Linda N.

Ditto, except I believe that it is more fascism than communism because of the way they’re trying to take over the means of production in addition to the thought control (auto, banking, etc). What’s next?

      • Vee

NEWSPAPERS!! The latest bailout will be the newspapers! They want to control (or “nudge” or “guide”) the content of what we read. I stopped reading my local newspaper because I kept getting this sticky goop residue from all the perpetual Obama slobber. No thought-provoking perspective like on Fox News, just more cheerleading for the Obama Administration. I get wearry and worried for my 1st Amendment rights everytime I think about the Government running our mewspapers.

Not the kind of girl to tell you I told you so, but…

Last week, I posted a comment on this website that in Venezuela there is only one news organization left on the air that is critical of the regime. It is said that this news organization is allowed to remain on the air (for now, anyway) in order to fool the public into thinking that there is still freedom of the press in that country. How far removed are we from that? In this country, we still have laws so the WH can’t use violence or force to get FOX News off the air, so instead, they try to destroy FNC’s credibility with the public. (Saul Alinsky, anyone?)

I was watching a documentary called Media Malpractice last night. (sorry, Bernie, I still haven’t read your book yet. I promise I will by the time it’s out in paperback!) It was about the stunning media bias during the 2008 election. It was both hysterically funny and horrifying. Like laughing as you’re watching the Titantic sink. Now, Obama really has the power to control the media – I think that they aren’t in love with him, like during the election, I think they are afraid of him. We have to support FOX News, now more than ever or pack up and move to Venezuela.

    • Linda N.

Interesting….I was mentioning to someone earlier this evening that this was eerily similar to the situation in Venezuela. Where did you see that documentary? I’d like to see it.

      • http://n/a Kathie Ampela

It’s called Media Malpractice and I ordered it online, I don’t think it’s on any of the cable channels. Go to to find out more. The media bias exposed is just staggering. The filmmaker behind it, John Ziegler, put together many “smoking gun” moments.

  • Andrew D

Well said. I’m of the opinion that the WH strategy will fail here, however. It looks so petty that it could actually backfire. Maybe I’m wrong – time will tell.

    • Ellie

I hope you are right. Usually Media wins – if it is a free society. If the WH is able to damage a free media – it would be spookier than Halloween!

  • Ellie

I agree. It was the “glasnost” that killed communism – Gorbatchov let the idea of a free market and free speech be acceptable – and it took roots. Radical Liberals in America did just that – they made “social justice”, “redistribution of wealth”, “change from bottom up” – acceptable ideas on campus. Now it is spilling all over the place.

I was 17 years old finishing high school in the USSR – I saw the young people all over Eastern Europe to stand up for freedom. It hurts to see young people in America to celebrate communism. It really hurts. I am an American now. I hope Fox will not be crushed.

In Russia Putin has a policy – it is law – all news in the media should be at least 50% positive, because too much negativity depresses the people and the economy suffers. The day will be soon when Obama will blame Fox for the bad economy and try to enforce the content of the programming. All dictators silence the opposition voices. Obama is following the lead of his red idols.

    • Tim

I was told the following years ago.

When a tree falls in the forest and no one was there to hear it, did it make a sound? Here this question is philosophical or scientific. A Communist once told me that “in the old Soviet Union this is not a question at all. As the falling of the tree and the sound it made is determined only by what the state reports”.

The best advise always comes from those that lived through it. Hopefully they will listen from experiences such as yours.

      • Ellie

Yep! If a tree makes a sound KGB takes care of it. To use periphrasis of Stalin – No tree, no problem :)
I was surprised when media did not question Obama’s move to interrogate “key terror suspects” out of CIA or FBI, but in Dept. of Homeland Security. KGB means Dept. of Homeland Security in Russian. It is very Halloween feeling that Obama has to say now who is a key suspect and who is not. Who is going to KGB/Dept of Homeland Security/ for special treatment. Media should be asking.

  • Sissy Willis

Are our fellow Americans really that clueless? The fact that the majority don’t want Obamacare gives one reason to hope.

    • Linda Norway

Yes, they are. They vote for whoever they think will GIVE them more. My brother, daughter and son in law think Obama is wonderful, and my brother thinks I should be ashamed of myself for not being proud of Obama. He asked me why I wasn’t proud to have such an intelligent president. My question to him was, “What intelligence? He got an A+ in speech class and has good speech writers!!!” This man has done and said nothing to tell me he is anything more than a pompous, egotistical prima donna! Of course, the libs in my family write it off to racism…… Yes, they’re the clueless ones.

  • Tim H

It was also FOX that broke the story of Governor George Bush’s 19 year old DWI arrest right before the 2000 election. So much for the arm of the Republican Party.

    • Bernie

      good point, Tim.

      • Wil Burns

Beck’s stated goal: Get administration officials fired, “take down this administration”

In recent days, Glenn Beck has said that something he is “working on” will “take the administration down” and that White House interim communications director Anita Dunn “will have to go away” after “what we show you tonight.” Beck and his fellow Fox News personalities have repeatedly called for Obama administration officials to be fired, asked people to dig up information on administration officials, and fearmongered about President Obama, his advisers, and his policies.

Now imagine if the Republicans had subpoena power.

        • Marlson

“We never even asked for him or anyone to be fired, we’re merely asking questions” – Glenn Beck on Van Jones just after his resignation.

That is not Beck’s stated goal. I know to what you are referring and its actually “I have some things we are working on that you don’t want to miss, it may end up taking down this administration.” Big difference than claiming the mission statement as such. Just saying, for clarity sake.

      • Wil Burns

George W. Bush was arrested for driving while intoxicated. The revelation shortly before the November 2000 election prompted a flurry of complaints in the media that Bush had not been forthcoming about his past. On November 2, 2000 A Portland lawyer, Tom Connolly, notified the media of the Bush’s 1976 DUI arrest, and provided a copy of the court docket. The next day the Dallas Morning News reported that Bush had been excused from sitting on a jury in a drunk driving case after he and his lawyers requested that the defense attorney excuse him. Al Gonzales, the governor’s lawyer at the time, and later appointed by Bush to the Texas Supreme Court suggested that the reason for Bush’s excusal was that as governor he might have to rule on a clemency request in the case.
